Let's Do Something For Art.
I posted this on the Skins Insider blog, and I post it here as a real, legitimate idea:
Why don't we funnel our anger at Art's snub into a project that not only lets Art know what he means to us, but also does some good in the community, and further serves as a reminder of what 81 means to Redskins fans? Rather than just posting angry messages, let's show Canton and those boneheads in the media that #81 and his fans are on another level from guys like "White Lines" Irvin. Let's do something with Habitat DC, or find a kids rec center that needs help. Let's put our money and time where our mouths are and represent Art the way he represented all of us Burgundy and Gold-loving fans when he played: by getting something done in the trenches. I've already contacted Tom K. of Monk4TheHall.com (the guy who put the great YouTube video campaign together) and he's in. Who else is with me? What do you guys think? |

BTW, if enough people pledge their time, help, and/or donations to get something going, we're going to need a home on the 'Net to organize. Matty and the Warpath admins, what say you?

BTW, if you're interesting in helping out, please just make a note in your post here, that you're willing to contribute time, a small financial donation, or both.

Mainly what we need is people willing to volunteer their time. Hopefully more than a few with actual skills Donations will be important at a certain point, but they would almost certainly be small-scale donations and we're not there yet. |

Wow, I have to admit I expected a pretty rabid response to the idea of actually doing something. I guess it's easier to sit on our butts and whine.

Re: Let's Do Something For Art.
Good idea Dgack. I would like to do something as well.
However, I would like to do something that could possibly help him with the HOF. While it is a noble cause to donate to a charity, I don't think that helps his cause. Does anybody have any idea what the possibility of joining forces with some of the other Skins sites, and Redskin land in general to form a union to deliver a message to Canton??? I don't know what something like that would take, or how it would be recieved

Petitions are a nice idea but have basically zero impact. I'm asking people to get off their seats and get their hands dirty. This only works if we all join together. There's multiple benefits here: 1. We get to say Thank You to Art. 2. We give back to the community the way Art did/does. 3. We can show how strong Art's fan base is. 4. You know any other HoF candidates who had their fans do this on their behalf? Harry Carson I don't think so. 5. We will certainly get media coverage if we do this right. And that's going to help Art's cause.Art would never campaign for himself the same way he would never do an endzone dance after scoring a TD. He would just go back to doing the right thing. I think it's time that we, his fans, stop protesting and screaming, and do what Art would have done: lead by example. |

Re: Let's Do Something For Art.
I think hat any Redskins fan who has a son this year should name him "James Arthur" or possibly just "Monk". It would be a really cool name if your last name started with "M". For example "Monk McRoberts" or "Monk Masterson". The unusual nature of the name would forever bear witness to the great man's achievements.
