error in the cap chart
On the cap chart it says that in 07 Brunell is due 3.5mil and has a release fee of 4.7mil. In the Washington Post a week or so ago I read that he has restructured his contract and is going to make close to the vet min with no signing bonus. I think we have even more cap room than the cap sheet says.

Re: error in the cap chart
Quote:
"Brunell, 36, essentially halved his salary cap cost from its original $6.7 million figure, taking a pay cut to stay with the team for a fourth season. His new contract makes his existing deal obsolete and will make Brunell a free agent following the 2007 season, according to league sources (the new contract technically is for four years, but the final three years will void automatically). Brunell, who is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, will earn close to the veteran minimum of $820,000 in salary (base salaries are not guaranteed) and also will receive a roster bonus, believed to be in the $1 million range, in mid-June after the Redskins complete minicamp. The bonus in essence is protection for the team in case Brunell's injured labrum does not heal by then, as he will have received no guaranteed money to that point. Cutting Brunell would have created a $4.6 million salary cap hit." Brunell's 2007 cap hit breaks down as follows: Salary - $1.5M Cap Bonus - $1.516M Roster Bonus - $500K ----------------------- Total Cap Hit - $3.516M It seems to make sense based on the article. Looks like the Skins gave him $1.5M in salary instead of $820K min, and $500K roster bonus instead of $1M. He didn't get a signing bonus this time. The $1.516M cap bonus is unallocated signing bonus money from his previous contract. After this year we'll still owe $3.116M unallocated SB money from his previous contract. |
