Crat92 presents The Calvin Johnson Poll
Let's just suppose for a second that for some strange ocurrence that Calvin Johnson actually fell to us at #6. What would you do if you were the Redskins?
Vote or Sheriff Gonna Getcha will ban you

Re: Crat92 presents The Calvin Johnson Poll
I went with C because trade the pick while on the clock is not an option.
Still, I can think of much worse things then ending up with CJ on the roster come camp. |

Essentially C and what you're saying are the same idea. I see what you're saying though, what if someone wanted to move up to #6 but didn't want CJ? Let's just assume they do here

Crat92 just had a lengthy heart to heart discussion. I told him we still want him to be a part of the Warpath in 2007. He's part our long range plans. He's a super-smart guy who really posts his guts out everytime so I've adjusted the poll on his behalf. For those that had picked C, I apologize for the change but Crat shelled out the big bucks to sponsor this poll.

Re: Crat92 presents The Calvin Johnson Poll
i think the kiss of death was smooty telling you we want you to be part of the team. and at six, we need to take the best available defensive lineman. we do not need calvin johnson

Re: Crat92 presents The Calvin Johnson Poll
Wow. I'm the only vote for pass on him.
Packaging the 6th would be an ideal option, but it would have to be worth it. Right now, trading down looks like we miss out on Okoye to me. I don't want that. He's such a unique prospect, and this is our only chance to get him. If the Vikings would give up a 2nd to move up one spot for him, I would want that trade. But that's the only reasonable trade I'd take.

Re: Crat92 presents The Calvin Johnson Poll
for the sake of arguement, why do you want him here so bad? and how do you think our defense will play with the same guys from last season?

At the beginning of the 2006 season I posted a thread about team chemistry. http://www.thewarpath.net/redskins-l...tml#post160731. Some thought it wouldn't be that much of an issue. I said I would reserve judgement until the fifth game or so. I think you can chalk up our defensive failures in 2006 to numerous things, but the one thing that concerned me going in was a lack of chemistry. This year I'm banking on a healthy C.Griff in rotation with Golston, Montgomery and a splash of a healthy Salave'a(sp). Throw Andre Carter, who may have found his groove, and your sack total could jump quite a bit. I'll say this too, even if we fielded the same exact defensive players from last year, no way in hell we finish ranked 30 again this year! As critical as I've been of Gregg Williams, I have enough confidence in him to believe he won't field the same mediocre defense again in 2007. So here's what I see: A) Modest upgrades on defense B) You get some healthy bodies back C) Gregg Williams will make some adjustments and fine tune things. We haven't even discussed the possibility that guys that dragged ass last year will bring their A game this year, like Rogers, Taylor, Griffin, etc. Now this brings me to Calvin Johnson. Clearly the best WR in the draft - clearly. Perhaps, pound for pound the best available player. I think he could have more impact at his position and add more value as a long-time Redskin, than any of the prospective DL could have at their position for a first round pick. Bottom line, this guy could be a game changer. I highly doubt any of the defensive lineman drafted has that capability right now. Let's throw this last thing in there, if we draft Calvin Johnson, is it conceivable that we could upgrade the defensive line via a trade for either Randle El or Lloyd? I mean c'mon if Archuletta is tradable, my God, how much more are ARE or Lloyd?? At the end of the day it's all a gamble. Nothing's a sure thing in the NFL. |

Counting on Griffin and Salave'a to stay healthy would be like depending on Dom Deluise to guard the breakfast bar at Shoney's. Just ain't gonna happen. Why people are so willing to give those guys another shot at stopping the run is mystifying to say the least. We saw what they did. It wasn't pretty -- and unless they've discovered the Fountain of Youth, another year on those bodies only increases their chances of getting injured more seriously and more often. |

Re: Crat92 presents The Calvin Johnson Poll
if by chance we have an option to pick Calvin, there is no way you can pass up on that guy. He would give us a legitament threat at #2 WR. But then that leaves us w/ Lloyd and El competing for #3 and the other religated to 4 wide sets or 5 wide sets, which are few and far between. The only way we are getting Calvin is if we make a deal to move to #3 or #4. if that doesn't happen, we will trade down for more picks. I dont know that any one on the staff is GAGA over the D-lineman that will be there at #6. I get the feeling they think they can get a D-lineman just as good later in the round, and pick up some depth with the additional picks gained. I would like to see us draft a LB in the 2nd or 3rd, to groom for MLB when Fletch is gone or diminished after 2 or 3 years.
