I think they should go to 18 and cut out 2 of the meaningless pre-season games.

That would be the perfect plan. Players probably like it though.

Why would the players want to play an additional 2 games for the same pay? Whoever said the union would object is correct. Ever game is like a car wreck. Would you like to be in two additional car wrecks a year? There is no way they go to 18 games and then have a full set of playoff games. Also, I think they have to consider the possibility of watering down the product.

Also, adding two games means records previously untouchable, would be MUCH easier to beat. What record would be safe with two more regular season games????

Re: Talk of a 17 game season. GREAT!
While I like the idea of getting rid of preseason games in favor of real games, that fact that the NFL wants to play the extra game outside of this country doesn't make me happy. The NFL schedule is already hard to make fair as it is. with Thursday games and short weeks. Imagine having to play a game after having played the previous week in London or Spain. Or needing a win to make the playoffs and having it in Germany or Japan. Any one here ever had that kind of jet lag? What time would these games be? A game in Tokyo started at 1 Pm EST would be 2 AM. You think anyone is going to that game? As much as we love the NFL here in the USA, it has not caught on elsewhere. So be it. Forcing it down the throats of other countries isn't going to help. I think the NFL will be fine if they leave Europe and Asia to MLB and the NBA.

Going to 17 is stupid. It went from 14 to 16...so it's natural to move up to 18. The football season is too short anyway, and the preseason is too long.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, I'd love a longer season, but with 16 games how beatup are many teams come playoff time?

Besides, all the teams would be dealing with the same schedule, they'd all be on equal levels when it comes to being beat up. Maybe you think about giving a bye week for all teams to rest up before the playoffs begin? I dunno. Overall it'd be a good move, getting rid of one of the ridiculous preseason games and exchanging it for a game that counts would be win-win in my eyes.
