Wynn restructures

Wynn, who had been a candidate to be released, restructured his contract, accepting a base salary of $850,000 with a $500,000 signing bonus and an opportunity to earn $1.5 million in performance incentives. He had been scheduled to earn $2.8 million.

I think it's safe to say he will not be getting 1.5 mil.

I find it interesting that in feb. Gibbs said we needed DE help, now he gave the DL a vote of confidence. That doesn't make sense.

I love the guy but Gibbs is a liar when it comes to the press. I'm always reminded of a quote between him and Patrick Ramsey when he said something to the effect of "Patrick you and I are going to be together for a long time."

I made a comment not too long ago about Gibbs being a liar, and some people got very upset, but it's true...he lies a lot. I don't know if we should be disturbed by that, or just accept it as what he needs to do to get what he wants.

I like Wynn, he always been a good run stopper. I think he's got a little left in the tank.

Re: Wynn restructures

Are there any decent DL's waiting to be drafted today? Can we trade for any -- Kris Jenkins, maybe? If not, we need to be ready for another long season. Coach Gibbs' wife warned him not to come back. Maybe he should have listened to her. He can't fix an organization that has been dysfunctional from the top ever since it changed ownership.

Thank heavens. It would be devastating to lose his "locker room leadership."

Re: Wynn restructures

I'm glad, I think Wynn can have a good year. He doesn't have a lot of time left but I think he can go 1 to 2 more years.

Re: Wynn restructures

Can someone please explain why Wynn gets such a pass with Redskins fans?

Check these numbers:

Through 16 games in 2005, he had 24 tackles and one-half sack. Last year, in 15 games he had 14 tackles. That's it.

The guy is a complete bum who should have retired 5 years ago. He is one of the reasons people around the league think this team is a laughingstock.

The loyalty some people have for Renaldo Wynn is absolutely baffling.

Yeah, good research B. I don't know why he gets a pass. It is time for this team to adopt a policy of show me what you can do to help us WIN football games. And if you show us nothing, then you are gone, period.....

Man, I agree w/ you 100%. Keeping Wynn around is simply ridicules. But this does not guarantee he makes the team does it? Couldn't someone come in and beat him out?

I think it's nothing more than a rotation signing, nothing more than depth. With a paycut. Hopefully he will have a decent season.

He played IN 16 games. Do you think he was an every down player last year? In 2004 and 2005, he had double the tackles because he played almost every down. Last year, Golston steps in and starts. We get Carter, so that takes away Wynn from playing DE and he plays even less. I don't see how his stats last year are any indication of the type of player he is.

As a matter of fact, if you look through his whole career, he has never topped thirty tackles in a season for some great Jacksonville and Washington defenses. So either he A) still has something left in the tank or B) was just a "never was" rather than a "has been".

Re: Wynn restructures

I know he wasn't a starter. Don't you think that at some point, even the guys for depth have to show more than Wynn has been able to give us? There comes a time when a guy's value and playing time becomes so insignificant that he's not worth keeping on the roster anymore.

For the life of me I don't understand the love affair some people seem to have for that man. It's not like we're talking about Darrell Green here! Is Renaldo Wynn the type of player who NEVER has to account for his contributions?

If his role is so limited, can't we bring in some young, hungry players who are aching to prove themselves for the money Wynn is getting? Wynn couldn't make it on any other roster in the league, yet there is a maniacal faction of fans here who never want to see him go.

I'll never understand it.
