SI: Ten players on the decline
SI.com - Writers - Bucky Brooks: Ten players on the decline - Thursday June 14, 2007 3:20PM
SHAWN SPRINGS, CB, WASHINGTON A physically gifted player who never quite played up to his athleticism, Springs surprised many with his bounce-back performance in his first season in Washington. But that performance has been followed by two consecutive sub-par years. With his injury history and inconsistent confidence, Smith may never regain his status as an elite cover corner. |

Re: SI: Ten players on the decline
they also call springs smith in the last sentence. Maybe this amateur is talking about Will Smith the actor / football player and not Shawn Springs. THINK ABOUT IT.

Did you read the article, or just Matty's post? In the article he did refer to him as Springs in that last sentence. Springs needs to stay healthy if his status is going to be upgraded.

Re: SI: Ten players on the decline
See this is dumb. I would say "duh" to the fact that he is declining because he is getting old. But to assert he has had two sub-par yearas without mentioning that the reason was because he has been hurt is just stupid. The he calls him Smith and shows how little of an effort he put into this.

Re: SI: Ten players on the decline
He has been very injury prone in his career, but I think he is still great when healthy.

Re: SI: Ten players on the decline
Here's another misconception that needs to be rooted out. He has not been terribly injury prone. He had one injury in Seattle that caused him to miss time. He has only recently been more fragile as he has gotten older.

Re: SI: Ten players on the decline
He's only played 3 full season out of 10. Granted a few were seasons where he'd miss 1 game, but he still showed a propensity to get injured. Bad luck or not, the guy misses a lot of time. I think he's a good player, but I, for one, am sick of him being out of the lineup.

Re: SI: Ten players on the decline
Seems to me the only one on the decline is Bucky. What a crappy journalist. Go back to covering field hockey old man. The NFL is obviously too complicated for a schmuck such as yourself.

I'm sure the Smith part was corrected at some point.

Re: SI: Ten players on the decline
Don't get angry with some NFL analyst just because he happens to say something less than totally laudatory about a Redskins' player.
Remember, he's talking about a team that was 5-11 last year! Springs is not nearly the elite cover corner he was 5 years ago. Part of that is injury; part of that is age; part of that is that is that other elite cover corners have emerged since the time that he was - unquestionably - in that category. Springs- when healthy - is so obviously the best CB on the Skins' roster at the moment that any debate on that topic should be filed under "S" for "Sheer Stupidity". Nonetheless, a half dozen other teams have a better #1 cover corner than the Skins do and maybe that number is as high as 15. But I still want Springs on the field for every defensive snap in 2007 if the Skins' defense is going to improve over last year's horrid showing...
