Payback: Operation BBQ for Our Troops
This was to be my 2000 post but oh well.
As you guys all know I do BBQ and just got a couple new big Pit Smokers. You also know I am a Non Active Duty Marine with 2 sons serving in the Army and you know I am an Amputee. Put all that together and it says feed the wounded soldiers and where better than right here in the Nation's Capital at Walter Reed Army Medical Center where the wounded come first. There is a group called Operation BBQ for Our Troops who have done events where they get BBQ guys and their cookers with donated meats to cook for the wounded folks and their families. They do many out in Texas and the west but not so much here on the East Coast and that's a shame because the injured warriors come here to Walter Reed first. Operation BBQ For Our Troops I don't exactly know how to organize this but I will GET THIS DONE. Does anyone here have cntacts at Walter Reed or HIGH up in the Army? I'll try and use my contacts to get in touch with someone in charge at Walter Reed and get a date and number of family folks to feed. Then we'll organize our pits and I/WE will get us the donations needed too. Who wants to help? You can help with yer pit, time and donations. We owe these kids. Who's with me? peace

Re: Payback: Operation BBQ for Our Troops
Keep us informed as things get going as I'm willing to donate time or $. Have you tried just call Walter Reed and asked who you could speek with about doing this? Do we have anyone on this site who has a contact with the Skins as its right down the street from them and I would think this would be a great cause for them to help out with.

Re: Payback: Operation BBQ for Our Troops
I was just thinking I may have a person who could get us a contact at Walter Reeds. He makes prostetic's (bad spelling) for the troops and I would think he would have someone you could talk to. I will see him tomarrow night and will ask if he has any contacts or sugestions.

Re: Payback: Operation BBQ for Our Troops
Mike - Here's a small list to get you started:
Walter Reed Society, Inc. Walter Reed Society. They handle much of the charitable relations for the Medical Center. They may also be able to get you in contact with the Walter Reed Auxiliary, which also helps with charitable functions, including social events. Walter Reed Public Affairs Office 202-782-7177. They would handle any media inqueries, and may be able to put you in contact with someone that will be able to help get this started. Keep us up on anything related to this. I'd imagine I could take some time out to help...

Re: Payback: Operation BBQ for Our Troops
Seeing how I live 1/2 way across the country I wouldn't be able to donate any time to this cause. However, I would be more than willing to make a donation to help out with the event.
Let me know the details.

Re: Payback: Operation BBQ for Our Troops
Things are a GO!!!
I'm getting a mid August date and will be doing food, entertainment and shirts and stuff for over 500 folks including the wounded and Dr. and Nurses and staff. Once I get a date ya'll can help but attending and serving or donations of $ for goods or services. Having my logo designer make me a cool logo for shirts and stuff. Woohooooo!!!!!

Mike - keep us in the loop about dates and times. If I can't make it out, I'll certainly donate some money to help you get the supplies you need.
