They have been courting this guy for a couple of weeks now. Gibbs must like something in this 30 yr. old DE, or Williams likes him. Probably will come pretty cheap and overall his stats are not bad.

He was signed here in Chicago after a promising start in Seattle. He never quite found his nitche here, and was injured a lot. Has potential if they can keep him healthy.

He had a lot of tackles (41) last year. Sounds like he is a good/cheap pick up. Typical of Gibbs defenses in the past Daniels will be a role player. Situational substions for our d-linemen this year.

He's worked with Greg Blache before, thats why he's eager to come here, and Blache obviously like him as well.

WP says, "According to sources (probably Vinney Cerrato) , the Redskins are a leading candidate to sign Tennessee's Jevon Kearse, one of the NFL's best pass rushers. Washington is also believed to be interested in defensive end Bertrand Barry of the Denver Broncos."
Bertrand Barry had 11.5 sacks last year. Along with Kearse, this should solve our pass rush problems. |

I dunno about Kearse now.... we only really needed on DE, I thought Wynn does a fine job as long as good people are around him. We should have gotten Kearse and maybe a blue collar DT. Then we draft Tommy Harris or Sean Taylor in the draft and our defense is set.

Although he sounds like a good, solid rotation guy to team with R. Wynn on one side (opposite J. Kearse...
I think it's kinda odd when a DE makes more million in salary than sacks he has when starting all 16 games... Daniels is set to make 3 Million this year, and last year had a whopping 2.5 sacks. Again.. he's a solid pick up, BUT... he's in his 30's and had his worst season last year under our current DC. Just debating the 3 million that's all.

Maybe that had something to with how he was utilized in the D. Bouncing position to position won't help your play much. When he started at one position, sounded like he did a great job.

I didn't know too much about him but I have a few friends that are bears fans and they spoke highly of his heart and said he has some skills at D end and D tackle

He could end up playing DT, but what i like about this pickup is that the DLine is being completely rebuilt, not just patched up.
With GWilliams here tho, like it or not, I think signing Kearse is practically a done-deal. I'd be surprised if we don't sign him at this point- and early. And while i'm not sold that he'll be worth the money, there's a great chance he could return to form w/ a new team. Especially with some help around him like Wistrom or CGriffin. |
