Tony McGee on the Jets/Eagles

Hey Guys,

Good to be back after another win. As far as the Jets game goes, I was very happy to see them successfully rush the football again offensivley. I know there has been some confusion as to how I feel about the offensive schemes, but this is exactly what I wanted to see with a few more shots down the feild sprinkled in (which they almost hit on in overtime with Moss). I just don't think we can be too one demensional with the schemes (either rushing or passing), but this is a running football team and their ability to rush the football allowed them to beat the Jets. We have to remember thats the 30th ranked defense in the league, but the Redskins did a good job offensivley. They need to be better in the red zone, because this game should not even have been close, let alone going into overtime. Defensivley, I still need to see more from the front four (I feel like I've said this every week since we started these sessions.) They were better earlier this season, but they need to do more so that the Redskins don't have to blitz so much to get pressure on the quarterback. If they don't get a better pass rush with some of the quarterbacks they have coming up, they could be in trouble.

Clinton Portis proved that he is the number one back on this football team, but I would still like to see Betts utalized a little bit more. I also don't understand some of the rotation with the two of them, where Portis will run down the feild for the whole series and than Betts gets in when they reach the redzone. I think it should be more of a 2 series vs 1 series deal for them. Once the back finds his legs, they are ussually able to get into a good rythm.

As for the problems with the wide receivers, I think its a combination of the receivers themselves, Jason Campbell and the coaching staff. I would still like to see a bigger receiver do more work for the Redskins. I know that was what #85 was supposed to do, but obviously he hasent worked out, and Moss and Randle El have been hampered by injury. I think the "reins" are still on Jason a little bit too much, but he's also overthrown the ball a number of times the past few weeks, so you cant completley put it on the coaching staff.

Against Philadelphia, this is a game the Redskins could and should probaboly win, but its also a very dangerous game. The Eagles have some really good playmakers on the team and the Redskins need to take out the Eagles very early and put them away. This isnt a game I want to see linger into the 4th quarter (not that I like to see any of them do that). If it gets into the 4th, the Eagles have a quarterback that can beat you, so they need to take them out right away.

Thanks guys!

Tony
