Moment of silence
I know that most of us are taking this loss hard, some more so than others. Taylor was my favorite current player, and at first I was in shock, more of a denial. Now it's striking me right in my heart. I obviously did not know the man, but I am the type of person that lives for the Skins, and as such, I have a certain feeling of family associated with each player. The good ones / favorite ones are even closer to my heart. I didn't realize how much this is affecting me until I saw a vigil of Taylor and a tear came to my eye. I have been labelled as mr. positive when it comes to my beloved Skins, and I generally get upset when someone gets very negative about them, but I am finding it increasingly harder to be positive the past couple days. Due to this fact, and in my own way, in honor of Sean, I will be absent from this site to observe my own moment of silence until the next game. Sean meant a lot to me as a player, and if this is even a small way I can honor him, then so be it. This is the 2nd time I lost an active favorite player in my lifetime (Reggie Lewis previously), and I feel Sean deserves something from me. I encourage others to do the same, or at the very least, make sure there is no argueing amongst the Warpath family. We have all lost a piece of us, and we are all grieving in some way.
The Loss does make me thankful for my warpath family, and hopefully come game time this week I will be back to my normal positive kool aid drinking self. Goodbye Sean, we will all miss you!

Re: Moment of silence
We're going to have a 21 minute moment of silence leading up to 1:00 on Sunday. The site will be down during that time.

Re: Moment of silence
Great post.
I was born in VA, but my family moved to Memphis when I was 7. As some of you may know, I was blessed enough to get into grad school at GW last year and this fall I started interning with the Skins. Being at Redskins Park is a dream come true, while I was waiting for my interview I sat in the lobby staring at the three Super Bowl trophies and just being in awe of the whole situation. I haven't met very many players, but just seeing them walk around, seeing their cars, peeking at practices from a distance, hoping for a chance encounter in a hallway or parking lot, all the stuff that fans do, has been great. I think this speaks to the power of sports. We didn't know Sean, the closest most of us got to him was by wearing his number, rooting for him to succeed, living and dying with each play he made or didn't make. And yet we mourn him together, I've read your posts and its clear that this tragedy transcends everything, kool-aid drinkers or not we all hurt from this. I'm just numb. 24 year old athletes are supposed to be invincible. People are not supposed to be murdered in their homes. That's what sticks to me, Sean Taylor was shot by someone who broke into his home, so these columnists and reporters who bring up his past seem to be missing the point. We will all move on, in the coming days and weeks we will get back to arguing about Gibbs 2.0, Al Saunders offense, Jason Campbell's development, and everything else Redskins. I can't even comprehend how the Skins are going to have practice today, I admire their courage and strength and know that they are going to take out all their pain on the Bills this Sunday. Hail to the Skins! Fight for ole ST!!! |
