How do we replace Sean Taylor?

I don't want this thread to sound like I'm being insensitve being so close to a tragic death of our beloved Sean Taylor. But, I'm just wondering how does the NFL help us recover a lose of a high quality player like that. I truely feel that he was a our best player on defense (if not the whole team for that matter). But, how do we get compensated personnel wise, or are we just SOL due to acts of God. This man was so instrumental to our team, and he alone led us to some crucial victories that will be hard to replace. If anybody knows anything about these rules I would appreciate it. Thanks Sean for being on our team.

He's irreplaceable. You go and find another S that's pretty good, but doubt that you will find a specimen like he was. You never know what you are gonna get whether they are 1 rounders or free agents. Case in point is Antonio Pierce he wasn't even drafted and look at him.

I don't know if you can replace him but your best shot at coming close would require picking a top 5 player in the draft.

I'm thinking in terms of the NFL giving us picks of some kind in the draft, and how would this whole thing impact our salary cap?

I think someone posted that ST will cost us around 2.4 million next year. Sa for a draft pick that would not be fair to other team even though this was a tragic loss other teams have had to deal with loosing players to death, injusries, etc... I do think the NFL should change the rules concerning the cap issues for team that loose players because of death or and maybe include career ending injuries.

You must be kidding? The lost of Sean Taylor is going against the Redskin's salary cap. That's just not right. That's a double slap in the face.

It will be next to impossible to replace Taylor's athleticism and ball hawking abilities but the Skins are not without talent at safety. LaRon Landry has developed nicely and can get better. He seems to have the talent to move over to free safety. I like Reed Doughty. He is not as talented as Landry or Taylor but he is a solid player. He is in position. Supports the run well. Is not getting toasted. I wouldn't panic and say safety is a priority. Defensive and offensive line depth are priorities. A physical play making receiver with size is a priority.

You can't! The question should be what will we do without him.

Re: How do we replace Sean Taylor?

We don't.. We find the best player via the draft, free agency or from within and do the best we can..

The NFL isnt giving the Skins or any other team extra picks because a player is killed or seriously injured (off the field) and can no longer play.

Might not be entirely true. The NFL awards compensation picks to teams who lose players to free agency. I'm not sure how a death like this works, he might be considered a lost player and we may receive comp picks. Or maybe it's handled entirely differently.

As for salary cap relief, we get none.

Re: How do we replace Sean Taylor?

The best you can do is move Landry to FS and hope to draft of develop someone to take over at SS. That will never hold the possibilities that Taylor at FS and Landry at SS did. Taylor and Landry might have become the best safety tandem ever, but now we'll never know.
