Al Michaels on the 'Skins-Giants tie-breaker
As we all know, if we win out, we make the playoffs IF the Saints lose one of their last two games ("winning out" would include beating the Vikings, who would therefore only be able to finish at best 9-7, which would tie us, and we would have the tie-breaker by virtue of beating them). However, Al Michaels pointed out last night that there is the possibility that the Giants could lose their last two games (they play in Buffalo, and then at home against the Pats, who will most likely be playing for the 16-0 record). In making his comment, he said that if the Giants and Redskins finished 9-7, the Redskins would win the tie-breaker. If we both do finish 9-7, we'll end up with identical conference records, identical division records, and we will have split the two games we played each other. What comes next? Common opponents?
Sorry if this question was answered in the playoff thread last week. |

Re: Al Michaels on the 'Skins-Giants tie-breaker
took the day off & am watching First take, Bayless says the g-men will win next week, but Shaun King thinks they're done. He said Kevin Everett will be at the Bills-NY game next week in Buffalo & it will give them an emotional lift. The g-men do look to be in their typical late season Coughlin funk.
If they lose out & we win out & the Saints lose 1, we would be the top wildcard see & play Tampa. I like our chances in a rematch there. |

Good question- I was wondering the same thing...maybe opponents winning %? I don't know though.

Buffalo is no pushover as we saw. I think they'll give the Giants everything they can handle. The G-men better wake the F up.

Re: Al Michaels on the 'Skins-Giants tie-breaker
if we win out and giants lose out our common games records would be
giants 6-6 (not including against skins) redskins 7-5 basically if i did this right, its because we lost to the bucaneers, who the giants didnt play, and the giants beat both the teams they played that we didnt (49ers and falcons, how easy were those games for them geez!)

In that scenario we would hold the tiebreakers over New York and Minnesota. We would lose in the tiebreaker to New Orleans (conference record). Saints would go in as they #5 and the Skins would go in as the #6. The third tiebreaker is common games (after head-to-head and division record), which only comes into play when there are 4 or more common opponents, the Redskins and Giants share 12 common games (not including head-to-head). Giants: lost to Dallas twice (0-2), lost to Green Bay (0-3), beat Philly twice (2-3), beat the Jets (3-3), beat Miami (4-3), beat Detroit (5-3), lost to Minnesota (5-4), beat Chicago (6-4), and in your scenario would lose to Buffalo and New England (6-6). Redskins: Beat Miami (1-0), split with Philly (2-1), beat Detroit (3-1), lost to Green Bay (3-2), lost to New England (3-3), beat the Jets (4-3), lost to Buffalo (4-4), beat Chicago (5-4), and in your scenario they would beat Minnesota and split with Dallas (7-5).

Re: Al Michaels on the 'Skins-Giants tie-breaker
Strength of victory doesn't bode well for the skins.
