Let's Talk Vikings
Now that we've gotten pass da Bears and the Giants, let's discuss the Vikings.
I'll be honest, outside of Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor I really don't know much about this team. Obviously, the offensive line is one of the best in the league and from what I hear they have the number one run defense too. But what else makes them scary? Are they good in the dome this year? I don't think Tavaris Jackson has given anyone fits this year, has he? So my question is this, what is about this team that presents problems for the Redskins? Oh, I guess we'll be pulling for the Bears tonight. |

Re: Let's Talk Vikings
Without a doubt, the Vikings are great at using the run to set up the pass. My stepdad is a huge Vikings fan so I check them out often to give him shit if they suck.
Pretty much Tavaris Jackson is crap when the running game isn't going. If it is, he can run that play action ALL day to his shit receiving corps. We should be able to shut down their WRs without huge problems. We ALSO should be able to pass on them a bit.

Re: Let's Talk Vikings
Vikings have the #1 Rushing Defense... I'd be most concerned with this..
EDIT: They also have the #32 Pass Defense |

Re: Let's Talk Vikings
I guess the thing the scares me the most about them is that fact that they are hot right now. Even when team sucks statiscally, if they're on a roll it doesn't matter much.

Re: Let's Talk Vikings
We should load the box and slow down the rushing attack and make them beat us throwing the ball. I do think we can run the football on them if we stick with it but their front 7 is very good against the run.
I would think our gameplan will be more short to intermediate passes to open the game and soften up their 7-8 in the box. Should be a good game.

Re: Let's Talk Vikings
You know, I gave this a little thought over the weekend. The whole number one in this category and number one in that category. Sometimes, often times, that can be a function of how the game flows and not always reflective of how dominant you are. Also, if they are number one in rush defense but near the bottom in pass defense that tells me something too.
I tend to be more impressed with teams that are like 3rd or 4th in both categories. |

He did seem quicker or something. Maybe it was just us....I did notice he honored Sean Taylor after he scored. |

Re: Let's Talk Vikings
What it tells me is that they are so dominant at stopping the run that teams just don't try it anymore and resort to the air. That's when teams throw the ball 40-50 times a game. While it might say they suck against the pass, that's not necessarily true. Also look at the division they play in. They've played Detroit AND Green Bay twice, both teams who heave the ball at the drop of a hat.

It just seems damn near impossible to bottle both backs up though.

Re: Let's Talk Vikings
We should be able to exploit their secondary. I think we'll be able to beat them with screens and draws -- something Saunders does pretty well.
On defense, as was stated earlier, we should stack the box and see if they can beat us in the air. If we do this, I bet we get at least 1 pick.

If they get throught the linebackers, pray Laron comes to the rescue, because if he doesnt, we are in trouble.

Re: Let's Talk Vikings
I think you pretty much summed it up, TMC. They're unbelievable in the trenches. The offensive line features beast Hutchinson, center Matt Birk (been a pro bowler), Bryant McKinnie at T (been a pro bowler) and then Artis Hicks who was a solid G for Philly for a number of years. Peterson has averaged 6.1 a carry, and Chester Taylor who is an average runner has averaged 5.3. Hell, Mewelde Moore is averaging 5.3.
The DTs have to be the best tandem in the game right now. Pat Williams and Kevin Williams. They're immovable objects. They don't have much in the way of pass rush, that's why I think their pass defense is suspect. They have some quality in the secondary with Antoine Winfield and Darren Sharper back there. But their most productive sack guy is DE Ray Edwards (who?) and he only has 5. Running up the middle isn't going to work for us in this one. We've got to attack through the air. We should be able to protect Collins well enough for him to find plenty of targets. On defense, the WRs don't scare anybody, I think we match up well. They do have a burner in Williamson, but he's inconsistent. You just keep Landry back 20-25 yards like we've been doing, guard against the deep ball, and bring Doughty up in the box. I think our corners have been playing well enough to negate their WRs, so we should be able to move Doughty around. We're going to need him, because our defensive front is going to get moved. Hutchinson and McKinnie especially will get major push on us. Hopefully the 8th man up can slow them down enough. Then we just have to hope Peterson doesn't make all 8 miss. Because we all know he can.

Re: Let's Talk Vikings
As they say, if you can't stop the run you're toast! Stop their running game and you have a good chance of winning. Seriously, these guys are averaging 172.2 yards per game (22.6 yards more than the next team). Our run D needs to show up and show up big.

Re: Let's Talk Vikings
i was worried before this game but watching the first half against da bears makes me scared to run the ball on these guys. looks like they can run on 3rd and 6 and still pick it up. should be a good game, season on the line type shit.
