Javon Walker signs with the Raiders
ESPN - Source: Ex-Bronco Walker agrees to 6-year deal with Raiders - NFL
The insane deals continue: The terms of the deal call for Walker to receive a six-year, $55 million contract that includes more than $16 million in guarantees and pays him roughly $27 million over the first three years of the deal. |

Re: Javon Walker signs with the Raiders
Damn, that was quick. I didn't even think he was visiting with them until tomorrow.
So it's down to Hackett and Bryant Johnson then I suppose (to a lesser extent Drew Carter and Justin McCariens-a much lesser extent)

Thats more per year then floss-doss Randy Moss. Oh well, for a team like the Raiders to get players they have to pay a premnium.

Re: Javon Walker signs with the Raiders
Well for a guy that played 8 games last season, thats an awful big investment/risk.
To me thats just crazy money for the guy, but it is the Raiders. So that leaves us a shot at two at this moment.....?

Re: Javon Walker signs with the Raiders
All those insane deals being given away - are Bryan Johnson and DJ Hackett expecting same thing? I wonder...

Re: Javon Walker signs with the Raiders
Precisely what I was thinking. Obviously they won't get Javon Walker money, but they will be looking for some pretty lucrative contracts. Neither is worth it. At this point I'd really rather draft someone and just hope for some decent production in the first year (or get lucky and get Dwayne Bowe type production) and develop him.

I know that there's more certainty in production from a vet, but there's also the risk of Hackett not being healthy. I would almost rather go w/the hope of a draft pick & the low salary than signing a fa at this point. Either way, I'll be happy in the offseason so long as we don't pay huge $ for anybody. |

For the life of me I can't believe this crybaby got the same amount as Randy Moss. Moss is 5 times better than this guy. Unreal.

Re: Javon Walker signs with the Raiders
Seriously! I said in the Bryant Johnson thread that I wanted the guy at about $4-$5 mil a year and that, while worth that, I wouldn't go over. The guy can't stay on the field. He's always injured. 6 year deal? The Raiders will be lucky if he plays 4. 9 mil a year for Javon Walker is absolutely outrageous, football players are rapidly approaching baseball money.

Re: Javon Walker signs with the Raiders
$55M for this guy??? I laughed my ass off when I saw those numbers. $106M combined for him and DT Tommy Kelly, neither of whom can stay healthy. Insanity. I can't believe the money being pissed away in FA market this year. The deal the Jets gave Calvin Pace is just as silly IMO.

I even thought and posted that he would come at a discount due to his injuries and lack of performance...leave it to the raiders to f--- up the FA market with such a dumb move paying that much money. This just means Hackett will be overpaid by us if he comes here too. All the more reason to just go get a guy like Monk in the draft.
