Re: Black and Tans
I just tried the Blacksmith.
guinness and smithwicks. I'm in love. Also, over the holidays we had a Kwanzaa. (guinness and Christmas ale) and it was pretty good.

Re: Black and Tans
this is my first time trying smithwicks, and I'm very impressed. Even my wife marveled at the smoothness and rich flavors. Mixed with the Guinness it's heaven in a stein.

Re: Black and Tans
I sent my wife out to get some of the cherry wheat but she couldnt find it. the only shop in my town that may carry it is closed on sundays. She did however come back with some Hoegaarden witbier. They are better than the smithwicks. I can't imagine what a cherry wheat would be like....

Re: Black and Tans
Ever try Yeunglings Black & Tan? Pretty decent stuff.
I've got this Wisconsin brewed stuff called Leininkugel's. Pretty good stuff. Thanks to this thread I may try it with Guinness.

Re: Black and Tans
Harp & Guinness is my favorite black and tan, even though I live bass more than Harp.
Ever tried a snakebite? It is 1/2 lager and 1/2 hard cider. For some reason the mixture makes you feel the effects faster, plus it tastes pretty good. Some places do cider and Guinness but I don't like that as much. |

Re: Black and Tans
Dogfish Head makes a pretty nice chicory stout / 90 min IPA black and tan.

Re: Black and Tans
Dogfish Head's Black and Tan is awesome...
I usually have what has also been dubbed an Irish Black and Tan (Guinness/Smithwick's). From what I've been told at the pub, Guinness/Harp is a Half and Half, while Guiness and Bass is a Black and Tan. Then, there's the good old Irish Black and Tan Car Bomb. Drop the Bailey's/Jameson mixture into a Guinness/Smithwicks and down.
