Re: is this elephant for real???
I imagine so. I had my same doubts as you when I first saw this video, but who knows.

Re: is this elephant for real???
Well typing painting elephant into google yields our answer.
Urban Legends Reference Pages: Elephant Painting The video is real but the elephant has been trained to reproduce this specific image. He doesn't understand what he's drawing and can't draw other things. This is evidence of superior training more than intelligence . Well I agree with you Jsarno that certain animals our more intelligent than we realize, dolphins for example, I think the ability to create and appreciate art is as uniquely human as it gets. |

Re: is this elephant for real???
My dad work's for the company that owns Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey, and we get free tickets, and in the beginning of each show they get an elephant to paint, or draw something, they aren't that bad. So I wouldn't doubt it if it were real.

Re: is this elephant for real???
I'll have to admitt that when I was younger we would go to the circus RB & BB. I have sense decide that in todays world this is an out dated and cruel to the animals. If they would remove the animals and just do the tricks and stuff I love to take my daughter. I hunt and fish so I'm not one of those PETA types but I do back them in this situation.

I'm sure its like one of those golf resorts that our grand parents move to in FL. when they retire. Sorry you can defend them all you want but its just not right the way they are treated and the conditions they have to live.

Re: is this elephant for real???
I actually saw it on the Animal Planet. I doubt the channel would have aired a segment about that project if it was a hoax.

Re: is this elephant for real???
I saw this on TV a year or so back. They help the elephant here and there to get it to use different colors and things. From what I gathered and from what they said the elephant does not really have artistic ability but does know how brush paint on a canvas. The more they helped the better the paintings so while it is true that the elephants paints that about all it really is about.
