Peter King On Jason Campbell
At The Park Today: Talking To Peter King « The Official Blog of The Washington Redskins
Answers in bold print.....He also talks about Snyder and about how it's perceived that he hates the Skins. Okay. Finally: tell us something you saw at camp today that’s not going to make it into your Postcard From Camp, but that Redskins fans would want to know. I’ll tell you something that IS going to make it into my postcard: I thought Jason Campbell had one of the best camp practices I’ve ever seen a quarterback have. Really! I mean, if he had four balls hit the ground in two hours, I’ll be surprised. I mean, the touch on this passes, his accuracy downfield, I was highly, highly impressed. Now, I’ve seen him a few times over the years, and I’ve thought he’s okay, but I never saw him like I saw him today. Do you think it’s Coach Zorn? What do you think it is? I think it’s maturation, I think it’s fourth year in the NFL, I think it’s a lot of things. Now, you know what I like about him? He could have sat there with his eight different offensive systems in the last nine years of his football life and he could’ve said, “Woe is me, I am so sick of this crap, I’m going to go buy my own team so I can run the offense that I would want to run.” But all he did was – evidently he MUST have – put his nose to the grindstone and learned another offense. Now, you always, always hesitate [to judge] when there’s nobody rushing. I mean, one of the best camp practices I saw last year was Rex Grossman and I have become convinced now that Grossman is great when he knows he’s not going to get hit. And he still MIGHT be great. But I saw him two practices last year, he was fantastic, and then he was Rex Grossman when the lights came on. So we’ll see about Jason Campbell. But, if I’m a Redskins fan watching this practice today, I go home and I’m really excited. Last edited by 81+83+84=Posse; 07-25-2008 at 07:04 PM. |

Re: Peter King On Jason Campbell
IMO, the whole season comes down to how JC performs.

Re: Peter King On Jason Campbell
True, but I get the impression that for at least the first month or so Zorn is going to structure it so that (as much as possible) he won't be asked to win games for them. At some point though, that's going to be required.

Re: Peter King On Jason Campbell
That was a pretty entertaining exchange. IMO is shows JC is as professional as they come.

I like Peter King, he usually is very keen to some things most people don't think about, and its a good sign that he likes the direction the team is moving in, and how JC was looking today at practice

Re: Peter King On Jason Campbell
I find it strange that most of the reports we've been hearing have talked about how inaccurate / inconsistent Campbell has been. Hopefully this turns into a normal thing.

Re: Peter King On Jason Campbell
Rex Grossman ... those are some huge shoes to fill.
Let's not get too excited just yet. I also saw an interview with Cooley today on a blog where he talks about how intelligent Jason Campbell is in learning the offense better and quicker than anyone on the team. I definitely like to hear that - since West Coast requires quick, smart decision making. We'll see - he definitely holds the season in his hands... |

Re: Peter King On Jason Campbell
I thought the same thing.. The blog on Washington Times always talks about how good of a camp Campbell is having but then the guys on WP Live and Ryan O'Halloran from the WT keep saying how Campbell has a long ways to go. I guess we'll all see over the next couple of months.
