Portis to play Saturday - he doesn't seem too happy about it

"I'm not looking to see nothing. I'm looking to see how long they're [going to] leave me out there, to be honest," Portis said. "Is this [going to be] good? For who? For y'all? For the media? For the public? I guess. But what's good for [No.] 26 is rest. Rest is important. Rest is vital."

He needs some work in preseason. Not much, just some to shake the cobwebs off in a game-like environment. I would have voted very little, but that wasn't an option, so I voted yes. I concur with Portis that rest is vital for him as well.

I'm with you. I think he should play, but very limited.

Yeah didn't we try that one season and he seperated his shoulder trying to tackle somebody on an interception?

Ok, so the coaching staff tells him not to tackle anybody; it's only preseason. Come on, that was a fluke accident, it could have happened anywhere, anytime, to anyone. It could have happened later on in the regular season. What then? Rest him until the playoffs? He needs some work in preseason.

That was his own fault. He could have easily pushed him out of bounds, but instead he chose to go for the big hit.

Gotta admit that was a nice hit though. But i think he should get the L.T. package..Maybe a few snaps the last game.

I knew someone would bring that up. Like someone said earlier it was a fluke. Injuries are gonna happen, but you cant completely baby these guys just because they're a starter. He better be able to handle several carries in a preseason game or two if hes gonna be our starter for 16 (hopefully more) games this season.

There's a saying in the acting community that you will perform as well as you rehearse.

I seem to remember Portis not getting into his stride until several games into the season. I've never been a fan of Portis' pre-season attitude. Frankly, I think he needs the work.

Your comparing acting to football..lol

I guess when they start the game you would be like go out there and break a leg?

Rehearsal is called practice.

Lady Brave doesn't need anyone to defend her, she's pretty good at it herself but I don't think she was comparing the two. She was pointing out that the quote is relevant to football. Many coaches think the same way.

I was just be sarcastic. Furthermore. It may take a while for him to get up to game speed but not long. That is better than him being out for a year because of some freak injury. Him playing a couple of snaps is fine. But he is a veteran so he should be ok.

Whether they are hit in practice or not. Is not a issue. He has been in the NFL for years. I am sure that he's capable of taking a hit.

Can't a brother get some rest? Is he in football shape? Is his vision tuned? How about his burst speed? If all those things aren't at 100% and he's healthy I say brother got to play. Play!

He should play a bit, and if it is a couple of snaps just to get him warmed up why not? Someone just tell him not to tackle anyone. LOL.
