What's with the Ref. in the booth
The skins hired a retired referee to assist coach gibbs in challenging bad calls. What was his problem when Brunell got the first down on the one yard line?

For whatever reason he advised Gibbs to not challenge it. Maybe he didn't have the same angle that we saw on TV, that's about the only reason I can think of because it was pretty clear that it was a first down all the way.
What was up with that spot from the refs anyway?? Just horrible. |

yeah the refs were not ontop of that one for sure. So he did advise them not to challenge it. I was thinking maybe he did not really see it and said nothing at all (well atleast that is what i was hoping)

At the time (not knowing what the final result was going to be) did you guys think maybe we should have gone for it anyway on 4th down? I guess you always want to go for the sure points but I like the idea of sending a message with a "bold" decision like that

But you might also think if he doesn't get it by going on 4th down we have them pinned deep on the one with loud fans and a vicious defense. If you remember the special teams gave up a long one after the field goal. But if they goo 99 yards and score we lose momentum and most likely the game. So good decsion.

Yeah I was around for Gibbs the first time around. I seem to remember him going for it on 4th and 1 in a certain Super Bowl. Or how about 1989 (or was it 90?) when he went for it on 4th and 4 or 5 against the Chargers and got a TD to Gary Clark? Granted the circumstances weren't exactly the same, and I had no problem at all with taking the field goal yesterday, I was just curious what people on this board thought of the decision

i dont know how many challenges we will see from gibbs this year, for some reason ithink he wont want to risk losing the timeout, unless its really, really evident or in the 4th quarter and is desperately needed.

I liked the decision to take the points.
God forbid they went for it and got stopped, that could have really changed the momentum of the game. |

Also, I have read - on the Bucs forum for what it's worth - that Brunnell's elbow hit the turf with the ball short of the first down (in which case he is down). Did the TV replay show this?
As I was 4 rows from the top of the stadium, I don't think I had the best angle. |
