Re: Vote for Best DC Sports Owner
I would have put this in the "Other Sports" forum. It is not 100% about football, but it is about other sports.
As far as the vote goes, after all of the complaining about Snyder I am suprised that anyone is voting for him. As for myself, I voted for the Owner of the CAP's because he has put out a young and talented group. |

Paul Hamlin, owner of the DC Divas. Under his stewardship they have had 3 undefeated regular seasons out of 4, been to two championships and won one. That he's not on this list is a travesty.

Re: Vote for Best DC Sports Owner
I voted for Leonsis. He started out trying to win the Snyder way, but unlike Snyder, he wised up and fixed things. His franchise is the only one in this town with any buzz or energy. I've never been a big hockey fan, but I'm becoming one because the team is so much fun to watch and the energy at the Phone Booth during games is unbelievable. [Much more exciting than at FedEx Field, says this Redskins season ticket holder.] Leonsis has built a winner around the best hockey player in the world and he's done it the right way.

Re: Vote for Best DC Sports Owner
It's Leonsis, without a shadow of a doubt IMO.
Best money making owner, sure, Danny Boy. Best on field (or on ice) prodcut goes to Leonsis, bar none. However SmootSmack's point about the DC Diva's is a good one.

Leonsis also owns the Mystics, who are rather mediocre.

Plus, he did try to choke that one fan, at least Snyder never did that. I guess if he did try he'd probably need a step stool to reach.

Re: Vote for Best DC Sports Owner
Glad to see the love for Leonsis. Leonsis has become the anti-Snyder, you know, one that made the same mistakes but ACTUALLY learned from them and turned the franchise over to professionals (George McPhee) to build the franchise from bottom to top. And it worked. The Capitals have first class franchise from South Carolina in the ECHL, to the Hershey Bears in the AHL to Washington. Winning at all levels. And doing it with youth and smart drafting.

Re: Vote for Best DC Sports Owner
Uncle Teddy Email got my vote. He has the right people around him in the Capitals franchise to help them succeed. They have built such a great team that looks to be a dominant threat, like back in the heyday of Langway, Stevens, and Gartner when the made the playoffs 14 straight seasons in a row.
Snyder is a close second. I honestly think he's making strides when it comes to the organization, and while it's very hard to do so, as fans we have to be patient.

Re: Vote for Best DC Sports Owner
I like Leonsis and think he's a solid owner, but I doubt he'd have gotten even half these votes when the Caps were in the cellar of arguably the worst division in hockey and raising ticket prices anyway. Plus, I'm pretty sure that McPhee was around before Leonsis though I'm sure you just meant handed over control to McPhee instead of playing Fantasy NHL with his team. McPhee had no more of a proven record as a hockey executive going into his job with the Caps than Cerrato did before joining the Redskins. In many ways, Snyder/Cerrato and Leonsis/McPhee are similar but the results aren't there yet for the Redskins and due to their different personalities most people would never dare given any benefit of the doubt to the Snyder/Cerrato team.
But the biggest advantage Leonsis has is that probably 4 out of every 5 people in the DC area couldn't have cared less about the Capitals (other than 1998 when they went to the Stanley Cup) so they could afford to suck and spend a year not even playing because of the lockout because no one was even watching, let alone attending the games. Props to Leonsis for being willing to be awful, it would probably benefit the Redskins if Snyder did the same. But that just wouldn't fly with the fans.
