Re: Chimp beatdown
They said the chimp grew up with the family, logged onto the internet (I think maybe it also goes by the name Kidwell ), drank wine, watched tv...but at the end of the day it's still a wild animal. I think I heard it had been taking medication for lyme disease and that's what set it off.
This chimp lived five minutes away from me, apparently he would hang around downtown a lot. I never personally saw him though.

Re: Chimp beatdown
What a horrible story. It's totally irresponsible to keep a chimpanzee as a pet IMO, even if he had no history of aggression.
There was a story similar to this a few years back I remember reading. Some elderly couple got totally mauled by a chimp. They are freakishly strong.

Re: Chimp beatdown
Definitely. My girlfriend and I went to the National Zoo here in DC last summer, and just going into the ape house made me a little nervous. I know there is thick glass in between spectators and the animals, but a few of those big ass gorillas did not look happy. I wouldn't put it past them to smash that glass.

Re: Chimp beatdown
Man that chimp went nuts. The woman's frantic 911 call is out:

Re: Chimp beatdown
Man I could only listen to a minute of that. There is some guy that helps save monkeys around the world but one attacked him once ripped his nose and nuts off.
I also saw a Discovery channel show on Apes. They will attack each other if they feel threaten. They show two tear the jaw off another and then they proceded to eat the jaw of the attacked ape. Why you would have one for a pet is beyond me. Aperently this one in question was on meds that caused it to act out. I heard one story where a guy was keeping a tiger in his NYC apartment, the only way the police found out about it was becasue his downstairs neighbor was complaining about the amout urine that was coming through his ceiling.

Re: Chimp beatdown
This is reminiscent of the Sigfreid (sp?) and Roy incident a few years back. One of them got mauled nearly to death by one of those bad ass tigers they roll with. If you play with fire, eventually you'll get burned I guess. Like SS said, they are wild animals, no matter how tame you think they are.
The arm strength those chimps have is amazing. They can literally dismember people with their bare hands. Ugh.

Re: Chimp beatdown
I think I rather have a tiger kill me then a ape. A tiger is built to kill quickly where as a ape would kill you by peeling you like a banana really slowly.

Re: Chimp beatdown
Slightly off the topic of monkey strength here but I really hate hearing 911 calls. Is it really necessary to release them all the time?

I was thinking the same, is there not a privacy act on these calls?

I couldn't help but laugh at this. Natural selection at its best.
