This is wonderful news though it doesn't pass the smell test. Let's just hope she didn't quit because she was going to be indited for embezzlement or some such.

Class clowns don't belong on the big stage. One clown down, Jindel and Sanford to go.

Better be careful or you might be caught up in the defamation lawsuits to follow if this is nonsense.

Palin Links Resignation to 'Higher Calling' - Political News - FOXNews.com

(about halfway thru the article).

Her $ 500K in legal bills probably has a great deal to do with it too. She'll hit the speech and conservative talk circuit, clear them out and then explore a POTUS run in 2012. A Romney/Palin ticket could be a problem for the Dems if the economy doesn't turn and the Obama policies become a drag on the economy too.

I sincerely hope this buffoon doesn't have any aspirations to higher office. Best she can hope for is some kind of right wing media deal, where she can become sycophant to Rush Limbaugh, a la Sean Hannity.

Apparently it might be because of presidential aspirations. Why Sarah Palin Quit - Yahoo! News

I laughed at the idea at first, but then again, she'll likely do better than Obama. His inexperience has clearly shown through. Not sure one inexperienced unacheiving candidate deserves another though.

Re: palin to resign

First off like her or not its a sad day when a person in or running for office has her family attacked over and over again. People wonder why a normal person would ever run for office. If this is truly because of the on going attacks on her family then she did what was right for them. It strikes me how the left seems to take the low road of personal attacks because they disagree with someones politics. Its like they cannot when the battle on ideas.

No side has the monopoly on this tactic. To say otherwise is ludicrous. Hilllary is, and may forever be, Exhibit A for the right's use of the same method.

I agree but it's also important to note that it's not entirely unwarranted. You can't pull these kids out for every possible photo op, use them as proof of your conservative credentials and then bitch when people start sniffing around. Same goes for all of these family values pols who are caught banging the miscellaneous staffer/mistress/sheep and ask for "privacy at this difficult time."

I think the thing that makes Palin likable, her gritty nature, is also the very thing that has her hurt politically. I just flat out think the women has a difficult time taking outside advice. These campaigns are run and staged, to a great extent, to be very scripted events. Any advisor worth his weight in salt should have told Palin not to bring her kids in the spotlight at every given chance. You want them in the spotlight, wait 'til you get to the White House.

The politics of campaigning and the politics of governing are two different things, and I think Palin is learning this the hard way.

Well said - I think you're probably right in your assessment of her. At the same time, while I am no Palin fan, I thought the media seemed to take considerable joy in attacking her family life.

No chance she'll run for or even win that Senate seat now. She's done with Alaskan politics all together I would say. Besides, there's a lot of bad blood between Palin and the current senator, Lisa Murkowski.

Palin will be a plus and negative for the GOP until 2012. The good thing is she'll continue to command all the media attention. The bad thing is she'll continue to command all the media attention.
