Vick conditionally reinstated by NFL (updated)

Source: Roger Goodell might suspend Michael Vick for first four games of 2009 NFL season - ESPN

Your thoughts on where Vick lands and will he start at some point this season? Good timing for him he can get on before camps start.

For the record, I'm not a Vick fan at all.

Re: Vick can sign, may have to sit four games

Im not a Vick fan either . I would guess Oakland as a qb/wr type . It would be interesting to see him in Minnesota with Peterson , Harvin and possibly Favre ?

Re: Vick can sign, may have to sit four games

Well, he's not my top choice for a QB even though I think he should be given the chance. He was never a pocket passer and it wasn't until his last few yrs they tried to make him one and I don't think it worked out. He's more of the "Run and shoot" or "Fun and Gun" style of QB. I don't know of any team still using that style anymore. Most are using some semblance of the WCO.

So the only other reason to pick him up would be if you were looking to use the "Wild Cat." Which teams used it? Which teams used it succesfully? and Which teams are looking to use it in the future? These are the teams who could use him.
Miami picked up a QB for this purpose out of the draft.
Maybe NE.

The Skins have not shown interest in using the Wild Cat so unless they are looking to ditch TC then I see no value MV has to the Skins.

He might work out in Minn. San Fran. Maybe even Houston. I'm not sure what style offense Detroit is going to run. He might work out for the Rams.

The NFL network was talking about Jacksonville maybe could utilize him.

Re: Vick can sign, may have to sit four games

As far as I am concerned Vick can go anywhere but Washington.

Wherever he goes he will bring a media circus. I don't know if you want that in a backup. Therefore someone who wants him to start may take him. Maybe someone like Tampa.

However, he hasn't played a down in some time. I'm not sure that he would be effective, at least at first, even in the Wildcat. I'd make the same argument regarding his shift to another position, etc.

I'm surprised that he only got 4 weeks suspension.

Really? I don't get the 4 game suspension at all. Vick already lost his credibility and reputation, his fortune, and two years of freedom. He's missed 32 regular season games over that span as well. He committed some horrible crimes, and suffered some horrible consequences.

I think the 4 game suspension is stupid. What metric did Goodell use to determine 4 games was appropriate? Did he look at everything that's happened to Vick since his conviction and say, yeah, that's about right, but I think we should throw on 4 more weeks just because. Obviously, his jail sentence aside, a 4 week suspension is waaay too light for Vick's crimes. But he's been put through the wringer over the past 2 years. Why a 4 game suspension at this point? Makes no sense to me.

I think the 4 game suspension was for public relations only. As you've stated, Vick has already lost a LOT.

I agree. If he is suspended, it will in part be Goodell's way of 1) showing the public & league that he'll hold a higher standard than the courts, and 2) letting the season begin w/out the negative media attention. Would be much better for Goodell if the major story is Farve!

There has been no four game suspension handed out at this time, unless some new news has just unfolded. It's a possibility.

But, if he gets four games or even more that's up to the commish and whatever he feels is appropriate. Personally, I could care less how much suspension the clown gets. If he does get a suspension I have no problem at all with it. It's supposed to be a privilege to play in this league.

Multiple media outlets are reporting that he's getting a 4 game suspension. I understand it's up to he commish to do what he feels is appropriate. What I'm questioning is the thinking behind 4 games. Like I said, for what Vick did, 4 games is way too light. But obviously he's suffered a ton for his actions separate from any league punishment. So why 4 games? I just don't get it.

I agree with what you say.

I was surprised by the suspension simply because the Commish has been a hard ass of late and previously Vick directly lied to the Commish.

If he gets a 4 game suspension, I think it is more for the blunt in your face lies to Goodell when this whole thing began for Vick. I don't think Goodell has forgotten those, nor just set them aside. I really have no problem with any decision Goodell makes, if he clears him with probationary period or if he suspends him for 1 year. Either way Vick will get a chance to go back to being in the NFL at ungodly wages. Not sure how many other convicted felons get that opportunity.

As many have stated, if he can come back, good for him, just not here on the Skins!

Maybe the 4 weeks was for Vick lying to him when this all went down. I don't blame Vick for lying because at that time he had not been charged with any crime.

Seems like a really fair deal to me, although the battle is just beginning for him. First step will be actually getting signed. I have a feeling if someone ends up picking him up before the season starts it will be someone we don't expect.
