Slightly OT: Rugby
I saw my first real Rugby game today. Two smaller colleges duking it out. How are these guys not completely brain damaged. I love it, but they wear helmets that look like Super Bowl II gear supposedly to keep their ears from being ripped off in a scrum.
It's an interesting game and worth a watch if you're near a college campus. Just thought it was interesting. We kinda played in Soccer practice since our coach was an ex-South African player, but it was insane to see these guys play. Not to mention half of them are already drunk before they take the field. |

I played it in college - U of M. I was a second rower and sometimes wing. It is great fun. exhausting but fun. Broke a guy's leg, another's nose, another's arm and caused two concussions; in return, I had about 2 or 3 black eyes myself. All legal hits - I wasn't TRYING to injure anybody - but if you don't play harder than the other guy, you're the one with the broken bones.
It was great fun. After one Navy UM game, (and my memory may be a bit faded) I think about 80 guys went through 10 kegs in under 2 hours. I am not that's right, but I just know we went through an insane amount of beer in a very short time. RUGBY PLAYERS EAT THEIR DEAD! |

Yeah, I've attended a few "Rugby Socials" watched the guys drink out of a shoe and sing crazy songs. I'm still not exactly sure of the rules, but I almost had them by the end of the match.

I used to hang out with a bunch of the rugby guys at school. They were always trying to recruit me to come play, which I was down with but what I wasn't down with was their parties which got a little 'hairy' shall I say. For some reason guys always ended up naked from what I heard.
They were a crazy bunch, but good to have on your side if you weren't in a frat. Nobody F'd with the ruby guys that's for sure. |

Played in high school. I think the British put it best: Football (soccer) is a noble sport played by savages and rugby is a savage sport played by noblemen.

i played last summer in an atempt to stay in football shape. aftermy first concussion my football coach told me it was time to stop. but i remember my first match there was a guy named chops that would chug a beer at every stoppage of play.
