Haynesworth on the Brady Crunch

haha classic...

Quote:
I mean, it wasn't like I was hitting Gisele or something; he's the quarterback. It was good, it was fine," Haynesworth told Dan Steinberg, he of the D.C. Sports Bog. "I mean, I was trying to tackle him, but I wasn't trying to hurt him. I'm not that type of a player, you know? I'm actually a big Tom Brady fan. I'm a big Patriots fan. I've always like the Patriots, I've always liked Coach Belichick. I just like the way [Brady] is."

Re: Haynesworth on the Brady Crunch

Haynesworth did precisely what he was signed to do. Disrupt the middle and get to the QB. There was no malice in the tackle. It was a good play.

But, the after-affect of the Haynesworth tackle was not felt in the Pats-Redskins preseason game. It was surely evident in the Bears-Broncos game last night though.

A DE tackled the QB and landed on top with his full weight, and they threw a flag for roughing the passer. He didn't get there late, he did not hit the QB after the ball was gone, he just laded on top of the QB and the personal fould was called.

You can bet the Haynesworth tackle of "Pretty-boy Brady" fueled this flag.

The NFL is sending a signal early before the season starts about protecting thier QB's.

I am not entirely convinced that if that tackle on Brady did not occur, whether or not that flag would have been thrown in the Bears- Broncos game.

They need to dress up the quarterback in pink jerseys and dangle purple tassels from their hips and let it be known, they can't be hit. The NFL is getting soft.

Really. Maybe they should just give the QB's guns so they can shoot anyone that comes close to them.

That is the route it's going. The NFL is a business and it's run by business men not NFL players that's part of the problem.

Romo would approve of this uniform change.

Seriously, I was hoping one of our guys would get a good hit on Brady. Big Al did not disappoint.

I wouldn't overreact about the penalty in the Broncos/Bears game. I've noticed all preseason that the refs are making bad calls and being VERY touchy on calls.

Not only do they need to get back into game shape like the players, but I really believe the league has them call extra penalties to emphasize the rule changes or rules the league wants players to notice more. These are calls that probably won't be made in the real games, but the league and officials just want to remind the players about the rules and curb any potential infractions during the regular season, especially involving QB hits. They just want the players to think before making certain kinds of hits.

I hope I'm right about the explanation of so many "crap" calls against us and other teams this preseason...remember the phantom Hall penalty in the Steelers game? He was obviously not making a late hit, but was called for one.

That was just a bonehead play. Hall deserved the flag on that one. The announcers (I guess it was Theismann) said it was a bad call but they clearly had their burgundy and gold blinders on there.

I disagree, he didn't hit him hard or intentially, just seemed VERY picky to me.

You can't admit there are a ton of overly-touchy (some nonexistent) calls in all of the games you're watching with any teams(if you are)?

This is why we're hearing in EVERY game from different announcers "Well, it's preseason for the officials too!"

It's getting old to hear it...but they're right.

agreed

Im just a self admitted Patriots hater (no sarcasm)

Thats what happens when you live in Boston through their last three super bowls.

Their fans are like new-money rich folk, they dont respect the fact we've won as many super bowls...they always say when did you win? who cares...etc...etc...

Re: Haynesworth on the Brady Crunch

Actually I was surprised that Hansworth did not get a flag as he drove Brady into the turf with all his weight. Not that I agree with the rule but it is a rule and just look at how he drives into him.
