Favre's Dirty Block?
I know it's not about the Redskins, but that doesn't mean its not news!
So apparently people are talking about the block that Brett Favre threw on Eugene Wilson last night. Personally, I'm no Brett Favre fan, dude sold out a long time ago. It seems most people are saying it was a shitty move to throw in a preseason game. I know i checked out the video and kinda had my mouth open at the way that dude's leg got all bent up. Not the most awful injury (It's sure as hell no Theismann) but still pretty ugly to look at. Ref's called it a bad block, but was it? I was more pissed at the fact Favre didn't even go check on the guy. He obviously looked down at the guy rolling around on the ground and then he just walks away? Granted this is no touch football league, but when you KNOW you've hurt a guy I thought some kinda light would go off? Maybe not. Anyway check out the vid.

Re: Favre's Dirty Block?
That's an illegal block. Doubt he was trying to hurt the dude, but that's a dangerous play.

Re: Favre's Dirty Block?
Most players usually do not "go check on" opponents after hitting them.
It was a low block, but not quite as low as knee level. I won't criticize a QB for not knowing how to block very much, I doubt Campbell, Romo, McNabb, the Mannings or Brady know how to perform a textbook block either. I like how he actually goes after contact though instead of shying away from it like most QBs probably would. He can be criticized for a lot of things, but actually playing hard is not one of them.

Re: Favre's Dirty Block?
Favre is like Hollywood Hulk Hogan now that he's in Minnesota. Just give him a dark 5 o' clock shadow and a black bandana and you won't be as surprised when he blocks low.

Re: Favre's Dirty Block?
When was the last time Favre actually had to block anyone? Peewee football? I doubt he has any clue or inclination to do it right. Crap block and definitely a flag but maybe if they're gonna run a play like that they ought to teach the QBs how to at least approximate blocking. Isn't that what training camp and preseason are for?....oh wait...maybe they did and Brett was sick that day...or mowing his grass.

Re: Favre's Dirty Block?
In his post-game comments Favre expressed a wish that he didn't hurt anyone on the play, "including myself." I found that oddly self-referential.
I'm not sure that he cares about anyone but Favre-self.

Re: Favre's Dirty Block?
It wasn't dirty, just stop with that.
A lot of his teammates today are praising it too. I think he may have won some guys over with that effort. |

Re: Favre's Dirty Block?
So I guess when Portis chased down and tackled a Bengal player a few years back in preseason, that was dirty too? He should have just let him score because it is preseason? Players aren't supposed to play hard and care about winning in the preseason?
I'll take a team of Favres and Porti' over a team of "oh are you OK, I'm sorry man..." types any day.

Re: Favre's Dirty Block?
I think it was dirty, he went right at the knees, basically exposing his rib that was "cracked".
I think Favre was just ticked to be in a Wildcat formation and took the opportunity to vent. |

Re: Favre's Dirty Block?
Favre doesn't want someone else under center when he is on the field. Or do you think he just wants to be out doing whatever? He wants to be under center, calling plays and running the offense. My name is Wile E. Coyote!
