Re: PFT Rumor - Joe Gibbs is Coming Back
Giving this the 60% accuracy test for anything PFT related, I'd be fine with this move. As long as he's not making the personnel decisions himself, that could be a good thing because the one person we know that Snyder won't overstep his bounds on is Gibbs.

Re: PFT Rumor - Joe Gibbs is Coming Back
You nailed it on the head. Having Gibbs in the role would also add legitimacy to our front office and make it more likely that a respectable coach and GM would WANT to come here - something I highly doubt would happen otherwise. Gibbs would also create a nice "buffer" between the Coach/GM and Snyder - something that would also make those jobs more attractive. I think the move might even be enough to get Cowher to take us off his black list.

While I love Gibbs and DS could do worse I really feel the game has past by Gibbs. Bill Parcells never really left football so its a much different situation.

I thought Gibbs left the team in fairly good shape. He had 2 great coordinators, one of which had HC experience, yet Vinny/DS essentially blew up one side of the ball & started over. I can't help but think what would've happened if GW was HC & Al remained the OC. |

Re: PFT Rumor - Joe Gibbs is Coming Back
If done it needs to be in Gibbs control. Meaning Snyder steps away and lets Gibbs run the team. Gibbs picks out the GM, Coach, etc... Gibbs is great at putting teams together. Look at Nascar and what he done here. Snyder will not let that happen though. If done it would be the best way we could get a credible coach in. If not we will continue to be the laughing stock of the NFL.

Re: PFT Rumor - Joe Gibbs is Coming Back
Obviously, Gibbs 2.0 wasn't very successful. He struggled to adapt to the faster speed of the game and was a bit "overzealous" in free agency.
However, one thing Joe Gibbs did well when he came here was assembling an elite coaching staff. Generally, speaking, he acquired high-quality, high character people on his staff and team. One thing Joe Gibbs was always good at, and is still good at, is judging the character of men. He also has the undying respect and admiration of Dan Snyder, something we cant say about anyone else Snyder has ever hired. If Gibbs speaks, Snyder listens. Thats all Gibbs would really be doing if the rumor is true - selecting a high quality coach and a high quality GM, and then "managing" Snyder so he doesn't interfere too much and screw things up. I don't see how anyone could not want Gibbs here in THAT role.

Re: PFT Rumor - Joe Gibbs is Coming Back
NO, NO, NO! How many times do we have to switch offensive philosophies? I love Joe Gibbs, but I want to keep the memories that I have of him as fond ones. I want to continue trying to implement the "WCO" not the "Air Correyell offense"
Well, I guess it's better that what we have, but it is not exactly what I had in mind for the team from my own fan perspective. |

For me, as long as he comes in as basically a mediator, I'm all for it. He might not be the greatest talent evaluator in the world, but he's a hell of a team builder.

Re: PFT Rumor - Joe Gibbs is Coming Back
Wow, I dont know how I feel about this....
A part of me is thrilled because anything beats VC. But at the same time Gibbs 2.0 wasn't so hot in player eval IMO. maybe if Gibbs only focuses on that role, it would be ok. But, on the other hand, wouldnt he just get a bunch of "smash-mouth" players catered for the triple TE formation?

I know, I wasn't thrilled with his talent evaluating either. His love for small recievers kills me too. If it is true I hope that he can get past the "Smurfs" among other things. |

Re: PFT Rumor - Joe Gibbs is Coming Back
His only bad small picks were Desmond Howard and Randel El. Gary Clark, Charlie Brown, Ricky Sanders, and Santana Moss were brilliant acquisitions - wouldn't you agree?

Re: PFT Rumor - Joe Gibbs is Coming Back
You have to add all of his FA acquisitions too not just Moss. Davis Patten, Brandon Lloyd, and Antwan Randel El. I would throw Thrash in there as well, but he was an Undrafted FA by the Skins under Turner. But wait we did send a 5th round pick to the Eagles to get him back. That 5th round pick became DE Trent Cole. We got hosed on that deal.
