Brian Orakpo = Beast

Wow, the combination of the fact that he gets to play next to Albert Haynesworth and that he is a straight up monster have added up to the fact that through 9 games, Orakpo has racked up 7 sacks.

That is pretty impressive and 11-12 sacks in his rookie year is not out of reach. I knew that Orakpo would be really good but I didn't think he would be this good this early...

Yeah he was a hit. The guy is starting to make the great plays we thought he could. He would be just a giant in a 3-4 I think.

For sure. He's done really well as an SLB considering he's playing a new position at the highest level, but I can't help but wonder how he'd be doing as a full time DE. I think his liabilities in coverage as an OLB are about the same as his liabilities against the run as a DE. But as a full time DE, he'd get a lot more opportunities to get pressure.

Regardless, I'm thrilled he's wearing burgundy and gold.

Our DLine looks to be a very good thing for the next 4-5 years atleast. Orakpo and Jarmon, AH (awesome coming back for those final 3 downs!), and then Golston/Montgomery.

Yep, he is looking good. He seems to be improving each week at the SLB position. Great addition to the team.

No. You don't get a heck of a lot of credit for drafting the best playerb on the board when you pick. Now if he had maneuvered up to make the pick or made some exotic pick that worked out (like the Patriots pick of Jerod Mayo last year) then he gets credit.

Yeah, and we didn't even see what offers were out there? As big a fan of Orakpo as I am, you still wait and see if someone(not in division) is willing to make a Holy Hallelujah offer and then go with your next best choices. Clearly we had a lot of OL needs that could have been addressed. Or you turn down the offer, but give teams time to stew about it!

Orakpo is a good draft pick. He is a good player now and has a lot of potential.

One could make an argument though that an OL would have been a better selection. What if we had an offensive lineman that was starting now and showed equal potential? What if we traded down for a first and third and had 2 olineman?

Hey, i'm happy w/ the pick though. If you've got a game changer there, you've got to take them more times than not.

So VC, good pick, but you're a horrible GM...or executive vice president of personel or whatever you are. Let's face it though, i probably would have selected BA there too.

On not passing up the OBVIOUS pick to make when Orakpo miraculously fell to us, sure, I'll give him credit for the pick.

However, he went on to ignore the o-line AGAIN in the remainder of the draft and only Marko Mitchell may work out (next year) with the rest of his picks...so overall, the draft was a failure beyond scoring 'Rak.

Maybe if Barnes takes over for Carlos and plays well, Vinny can get a little more credit from me on the way out the door.

With Rogers all but gone after this year, Tryon and Barnes better be ready to contribute next year. Vinny needs some of his mid-round picks to start making an impact, to legitimize his last two drafts. Rinehart, Tryon, and Barnes have done little to date. That said, we can all agree that Orakpo has been a home run, but I'll repeat that he was an easy pick to get right when he fell in our laps.

Good solid pick by Vinny and co. Let's give him some credit on this one.

Re: Brian Orakpo = Beast

But if you draft the best player on the board and he's a bust, you get blasted.

So to review, best player on the board and he lives up to the hype = no credit

Best player on the board and he's a bust = you are a dumbass

Orakpo at that spot was an absolute no-brainer. When Denver picked Moreno right before our spot, we would have rightfully been ridiculed if we passed on a Top-10 talent that could fill a position of significant need (SLB / DE). Orakpo is going to be our DeMarcus Ware (or better) for the next decade.
