Skins Future?

So with another disappointing about to end and looking back at the past ten years under Mr. Snyder and all of the disappointments throughout his tenure, and despite the few good seasons, when do you see the Redskins returning to prominence?

Re: Skins Future?

To be honest, after this season, I really think he's going to get his head out of his ass and actual get rid of Cerrato, find a GM and actually get a coach. I think not hiring Greg Williams has taught him a lesson, or hopefully it has.

I said we would start winning in about 5 years, this would have been in 2007 and I think I'll stand by that. Not saying we're going to be Super Bowl contenders, but I feel that we'll have the right tools and should have a QB and an offensive line by then that know the game well.

Prominence as in winning a Super Bowl?

Well then you're talking about sustained success over a period of time and that may take a little while. They can easily jump to the playoffs next year and be the darlings of the NFL but then just as easily revert to a middle of the road team. We see it all the time.

Yep, I was about to say there's a possibility that we hit 9-7 or 10-6 this year but we definitely see teams do that and then teeter around 7-9 again. It's going to take more than a couple of hits in the FA market and more than just a new QB.

I can agree and i believe vinny needs to go and they need to be smart about their personnel decisions (which is not their expertise) with whom ever follows him as well as a new coach.

Next year, but only if the OL is addressed, Campbell is brought back, Vinny is whacked and a new GM/coach are hired. These team has a lot of promising young players and a sound defense. Hell, even if Zorn is retained and the OL is fixed I believe we could win.

Riggo and Post’s Sally Jenkins on Dan Snyder | DC Pro Sports Report

Here is John Riggins discussing the future with our ever favorite Sally Jenkins.

Personally, I think heads have to roll. Snyder has a opportunity to make things right that have been wrong for ten years. In a non-capped season, this is a chance to get rid of dead weight contracts like Portis, Randle El, Randy Thomas, and others.

Hire a professional GM. Let the GM hire the HC. Let the HC hire his coaches.

Trade down in the draft. Pick up additional draft picks, go Offensive Line heavy.

Re: Skins Future?

Maybe a good discussion, but who can answer with any reality, you will either get a huge dose of "With Snyder we are always failures" or "let's see what happens this off-season". I fall into the latter

I fall there as well. We are some of the harshest critics of Snyder, but I hold out hope that this year was humiliating enough that Snyder will pull the trigger on change.

Put it this way CR --- if this year does not bring change, what will it take?

IF, this year doesn't bring an obvious change - Snyder does the OC 1st-HC 2nd -then GM routine, or Vinny stays as VP of football operations, or the new GM is clearly a shell for Snyder; then we will be a bottom feeder, every year or two trying the new and improved version of the same deep poop. If a season in which you can't compete against the worst teams for 6 straight weeks, doesn't bring change, then nothing will rock Snyder's myopic view.

I don't expect those scenarios to play out. I believe Snyder sees that talent exists, and Vinny did in fact make some good choices, but he also ignored enough obvious issues that he can't remain. I hope that Snyder acknowledges his part, and brings in a real, a la Bill Parcells, football overseer. Someone he can relate to, but also has the full knowledge necessary to put a yearly contender together. I want this season to be over, and to see how the first 2 weeks go. There really should be NO delay in picking a GM from the pool of available candidates.
