kettlebell training

Any one here have any experience working out with these things? I've seen people at the gym doing it and it seems to be a great workout. Just looking for a quality set and maybe a good DVD to go along with them.

Re: kettlebell training

They do that here at the gym. Some of the heavyweights use those things. It looks like there are many different ways to use it. You can curl it, dead lift it, etc..

I've only used it by laying it down and doing pushups while alternating arms on it. It is heavy as hell...and if you're looking to build strength, it seems the way to go

Re: kettlebell training

I'm mostly a barbell and dumbbell type of guy but kettlebells are great for working supporting muscles and unilateral training. A friend of mine from back in Northern VA actually went up to Massachussetts I think it was to become a certified kettlebell trainer; I'll try to get ahold of him and see what he recommends for starting out.

Re: kettlebell training

I actually just got back from my Kettlebell class, I've taken it on Wednesdays for about two years now at a Boxing Gym in the area.

The workout it gives you is absolutley second to none in my opinion. I'm by no means a workout gu ru, but I love it. Really wish I knew about it when I was playing sports. It helps create alot of explosion. I've actually seen some of hte Skins using them on Redskins.com in the background before.

I recommend trying to take a few classes if you can somewhere in the area to get accustomed to everything and some of the different excersies. Its real good stuff though... If you're like me, I just kept taking the classes. I could do all the stuff at home, but its a much better push for me personally and the teacher is awesome and I gladly pay the money each week. I could see classes at other places not being as great though, so you just have to see whats in your area.

If you have questions about it (agian I'm no gu ru or anything like that), shoot me an email or something, cause I've gotten a bit of experiance with them. Actually asked for a new set for xmas.

Re: kettlebell training

Do you need 2 of them or can you get by with just 1?

It depends what you're doing, but I do about 95% of my stuff with just one. I own just one, and use two at times when I'm at the gym during class. I dont really follow a DVD when I'm at home (just kidna make my own circut based on what I do in class) but I always do the ones that have 1 bell.

Re: kettlebell training

Think I'll pick up just one and see how that goes. Guess I might not need a DVD I see there's plenty of instructional stuff online. I'm looking forward to trying it out, must be a killer workout.
