Give Colt Brennan a shot with the 1st team offense in 2010

I know that Colt is the darling of alot of posters on WP while others could careless about the former Hawaii standout. I fall somewhere in the middle as a guy who liked him coming out of college and feels like he has a realistic shot of being an All-Pro caliber QB (...yes, I know it's a bit of a long shot) with the right work ethic and coaching. I think we need to see him with the first team O this pre-season to see what he can do against NFL caliber competition. If he can be solid this prseason, win the starting job (not a stretch for a third year player, despite the injury) and give a solid perfomance this season...then we may not have to look outside of Ashburn for our QB for the next 10 years. What do you think?

He will get a shot, but did this really need to be a new thread? I know the cult is underrepresented this year in the QB debate but for all intents and purposes theres going to be a QB competition. Colt will probably be the odd man out, at this point I don't think he's better then Collins.

Just wanted to get everybody's views on the matter. I thought it might be an interesting conversation. Plus, even though there will eb competition, I would like to see the guy get compete with the first team offense...not the second or third like before.

If Collins didnt play those 5 games after JC hurt his knee, would the consensus be that Todd is better then Colt? I guess its easy to say Todd is better then Colt because of the success he had during his 5 starts with us, but Colt still hasnt had a chance to prove himself. So yeah Todd is better, but only because we seen something from him, not because Colt had a real chance and blew it

If Chase Daniel would have been 6'3" in height Brennan would have been let go. Chase showed more poise behind center during last preseason. I was dumbfounded when Brennan was the one kept on. At least Chase got a SB ring though. Not sure Brennan is going to get one anytime soon.

And if Grandma had balls, she'd be Grandpa. Why would you be dumbfounded that Chase was let go? He looks like a jockey, not a quarterback. When he is actually playing in a game on Sunday, I will criticize the F.O. for letting him go.

I find it comical that all these people seem to think that the Redskins made some tragic error by letting Daniel go. He couldn't beat out a guy with a torn hamstring.

Good point and well stated. The Collins-Colt debate doesn't have a real well-founded solution.

It's probably not really even worth considering, I guess, if only because if Colt earns his spot on the team next year, Collins can't do anything at age 39 to keep his roster spot. He's pretty much subjected to keep his spot only if there isn't a better option.

Well it's been stated that QB will be a competition, so if he's here, I don't see why he wouldn't get a shot.

the coaches will probably give him every opportunity as the starting qb

Dirtbag, he has one thing Collins doesn't. Youth. I don't feel as if the Redskins are a team that need a savvy veteran at QB to pull them through in the starter goes down. Chances are even if the starter stays healthy for 16 games, the season ends week 17.

Shanahan has equally low loyalty to everyone right now. So I think Colt unquestionably will get a fair shot in camp. He may parlay that into starting time in the preseason or regular season. If he's the best QB on the field, Shanahan will play him.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Basically, Colt has as good a shot at commanding the offense as anyone.

...IMO this is a BIG reason to get excited about Skins football this year. I'm not saying it's about Colt. It's about the new regime and a new mentality. I think it will be good for JC and everyone else btw. Some will not find success under the new management, but I truly believe everyone who does find success will play their best football.

The thing is although he's a rarity, Bret Farve has at the very least people thinking about QB's under 40, so a guy like Todd Collins that had some pretty interesting bright spots in spot duty with no where near the wear and tear of Farve will at the very least be strongly considered to stay on the roster.
