As an ND fan, I like the hire. The past two weeks have been a disaster for ND. ND needs a ND guy and someone who knows a thing or two about offense and they found it in Weis.

anyone think he'll stay with the pats until they finish in the playoffs and/or superbowl?
It is kind of puzzling that he'd take a college gig when he was gonna be one of the top choices for several pro teams this year, but I guess bailing out your alma mater from this PR debacle meant more to him. plus he's already got 2 SB rings and possibly a 3rd on the way. |

Saban at LSU purportedly makes $2.5M per year. And lots of college coaches get "perks" that are not part of the contract package from the university; players are the only beneficiaries of boosters' "generosity".

Any coach that doesn't have the mental discipline and determination to lose weight the right way is not someone I'd as my head coach.

Weis hasn't had NFL teams banging down his door despite his success as a coordinator. One of the reasons is the restrictive interview policy which keeps assistants from being interviewed easily while they are in the playoffs. One of the reasons that a "used-to-be-hot" coordinator will get hired is they are more easily interviewed after a poor season than a good one. Mularkey, formerly of the Steelers, didn't get any heat from his 5-11 season last year - he was a prospect for the years before. That's why the Bills hired him.
The Patriots shuld be commended for allowing Weis to interview for this position. For their sake, let's hope it doesn't bite them in the ass.

As a ND fan, I really like the hire considering what htey had to work with. How many guys were gonna turn down that job?? ND was really dragged through the mud, but they defintley derseved it. I thought Firing T.Willingham was a huge mistake and I think it was proven after this "coaching search"

Well, I think that there's a stigma put on overweight coaches in the NFL, you don't see many of them. Holmgren is the only one I can think of. A lot of people said Marylands coach, Ralph Reagent (sp?) would be in the NFL right now if he "looked like a coach"
