The Correct Singing Of The National Anthem
Not only did Christina Aguilera butcher the NA she also screwed up the words. I'm just surprised the NFL allows these singers to keep butchering our national anthem.

Re: The Correct Singing Of The National Anthem
Eh, she's not the first one to mess it up. Shit happens, it's not like she did it on purpose. People take this shit so personally like she went out took a dump on the flag, even my Mom was all fired up about it. I'm like give her a break she made a mistake, jeez.
As for Whitney, kinda hard to mess it up when you're lip syncing. At least Christina was really singing. |

Skinsguy, that's pretty cool that you sang the anthem at ball games I hate, hate, hate when Orioles fans (it's mainly O's fans that do this) yell out Oh!! at "O, say can you see" I'm not a fan of messing around with the tune of the song, but it is kind of funny though how this cherished anthem's tune is based on a drinking song.

I went to the GU vs. PC men's b-ball game (this past Saturday) and one guy behind me yelled "O" but like no one else did it. After the song a few people around us told him that was disrespectful. He was all apologetic. I kind of felt bad for him becaue he probaly assumed a few others would do it but I guess the Nat's have converted O's fans in DC. It was literally like farting at a quiet moment in church that is how awkward it was for this guy.

Re: The Correct Singing Of The National Anthem
Don't sing the national anthem at sporting events...problem solved. BTW, why do they sing the national anthem at these big gatherings?

The WAY she sang the Anthem was disrespectful, just as much as not knowing the words. It's meant to be sung the way it was written, not mutilated into a pop song to bring attention on yourself. It's a reverent song, not meant for entertainment. Sing it properly and if you have to sing it publicly, MEMORIZE THE WORDS. She has been singing it since she was a kid in the Mickey Mouse Club and it a professional singer (even though she's a horrible one). There are no excuses for her botching the words.

So what should we do with her? Kill her, kick her out of the country, etc...? What would be good. We are humans and we make mistakes, honestly IMO this is a little one, just move on. You know surgeons and doctors make mistakes as well that end up killing folks. I would worry more about those mistakes then CA's singing error.

Re: The Correct Singing Of The National Anthem
I don't think people are as concerned about her mistakes as much as the way she sung the song in general. Water under the bridge now, certainly. She's still an amazing singer, but I wouldn't doubt the NFL maybe doing a canned version the next go around.

If she's just sing straight, she'd be great. But, she goes for volume and OVERDOING everything. Ruins the talent she could be using.

I got no problem with new renditions of the National Anthem. I loved the way Jim Cornelison did it at the NFC Championship game (even though it sounded slightly Canadian). I hated the way Agularia did it, but ive learned awhile ago the superbowl isnt for big pro-football fan, its for mass appeal including foreigners, emos and girls who dont even really know whats going on so they can have water cooler conversations about the commercials, pop National Anthem mixes, pop music half time shows and all the other bullshit most regular football fans hate. I do got a little problem with her messing up the words, but everyone makes mistakes and even the President of America is bound to leave out words when quoting the Declaration of Independence, even with his teleprompter. Its just human nature that we make mistakes, its carrying on and acting like you didn’t mess up that separates “good” artists or politicians from the rest of us. |

Re: The Correct Singing Of The National Anthem
You're surprised the NFL "allows" the singers to butcher the anthem? Pretty sure they see hiring grammy award winners/music superstars to sing the anthem as a safe bet for a good performance. It's unfortunate when someone makes a mistake, and I'm sure no one is more upset about it than Aguilera.
That said, it was a pretty bad rendition.
