Darrel Young - Rising Star?

Quote:
Young's transition to fullback from linebacker continues to look like a good one. His blocking has been fine, but his hands and nimble feet also have impressed coach Mike Shan?ahan. In two preseason games, Young has caught two passes for 27 yards. On those runs, he made a combined five defenders miss, whether by breaking tackles or making a move. "It's hard to find guys in that 250-pound range that can block and catch the ball like he did," Shanahan said.
It's all about decisions | John Keim | NFL | Washington Examiner

It's funny. After last year ended I thought Young had no chance of sticking around. Now I'm starting to wonder if he could eventually turn into a pro bowl level fullback.

You got to think that since he's converting over from an LB, that he's only gonna get better. He's done enough to unseat Sellers for sure.

So going from that article, it looks like Keiland Williams might be the odd man out. Torrain needs to play too, because Hightower is making a case for the starting job. Who from last year's roster has the best chance to make the team?

Helu has made the team, right? What about Royster?

To tell the truth, I like Royster better than Torrain - - someone on whom I cannot depend.

I like the rotation of Hightower, Helu and Royster. Each brings something a bit different to the game meaning the running game would have different dimensions based on which TB is in there.

With Williams getting a lot of minutes in practice at RB and Sellers at FB. I wonder if it's Hightower, Helu, and Williams and Young and Sellers at FB. Royster on the PS and Torain gone or more likely out for the first few weeks

I see something like this. I can't see them cutting Williams, he has proven his value in a few different roles. Sellers is more likely to get cut, but I see him making it for the same reasons; he can play a couple positions plus spec. teams.

Royster hasn't looked great to me, definitely PS material & Torain may have to go simply due to his injuries.

Young's play has been much better than Seller's have in just the limited time we've seen him. I think it's time to cut Sellers and continue to get younger. If KW isn't cutting it though, put his neck on the block instead of Sellers.

The RB position presents an interesting dilemma. God-forbid Hightower sustains an injury of sorts that would keep him out of action for a while and Torain does not make the cut. Do we really want to be left with rookies to absorb such a demanding role?

Re: Darrel Young - Rising Star?

I think Royster has an excellent shot. As far as Torrain goes, it looks like he'll get some playing time vs. Tampa. Maybe the Skins are trying to que up a trade early in the season. Zona sure could use a back right now.

Young has been impressive on those couple of receptions.

Re: Darrel Young - Rising Star?

I can see either Torain or Royster making it, but it makes more sense to keep Torain and stash Royster on the PS. That way if something happens to Torain you can just sign Royster to the active roster.

If Helu is to be the primary backup to Hightower, Torain, if he survives would be #3 on the DC. Since he does not play teams, I'm wondering what role he plays on Sunday unless he makes the 53 and is rendered inactive on game days.

Re: Darrel Young - Rising Star?

You can't be on it if you're on the active roster at the start of training camp and he was
