If you're that pious how did you end up in jail? If you've come to your faith inside then test it by waiting until your release to embrace it.

Ban religion in jails.

Re: US Prisons training NEW Islamic Terrorists

There are many, many Islamic clerics who denounce terrorism as unIslamic. For example, mainline Hanbali Muslim law states that jihad cannot include ordinary citizens nor can it include suicide.

So one sensible approach to this problem is to provide moderate clerics who will offer a mainstream rather than radical message in prisons.

Sigh. If it's not one thing it's another. I agree with Lotus in a sense. The voice these prisoners converting to Islam are mostly hearing is probably from radical Islam. We just need to ensure they hear more of a mainstream Islamic voice.

What are we going to do? Keep them in prison for spousing anti-American sentiment? Dedicate resources to monitor their activities after they get out? American prisons have always been training grounds for mischievous deviants. From these articles one thing is crystal clear to me, terrorism is a law enforcement issue not a military issue.

Exactly... let's try being a less shitty country with less shitty policy and then reap the rewards of less people wanting to blow us up.

Has to be a balanced approach. LE can't reach onto foreign soil to disrupt terrorist activities that are state sanctioned or sponsored. LIMITED (Spec Ops, etc.) military engagement has to be the answer here. There needs to be open intel at high levels between DoD & Federal LE community.

Agree 100%.

Agree 100%.
You are on the money, Sammy. It seems to me that fighting terror requires a three-pronged approach:

1) Education. Banning religion is not only unConstitutional, it also is impractical. But religion can be directed towards more wholesome ends, especially given the reality that wholesome resources already exist in the Islamic world.

When education fails (as it sometimes does in non-terror settings, too):
2) Law enforcement should be the first recourse. At its heart terrorism is a problem for the justice system, as Saden indicated.

When law enforcement is impossible or impractical, then
3) Military action is required.

Great point. Hopefully with technology today the education you mention can be spread into areas where it was previously limited and help reduce the number of people that turn to radical Islam.
