New Orleans Saints/Washington Redskins: Bounty Hunters

No link yet but the NFL has found about 25 players and at least one assistant coach guilty of being part of a bounty program where they got paid to purposely injure players over the past 3 years

NFL Statement reads:

"The league’s investigation determined that this improper “Pay for Performance” program included “bounty” payments to players for inflicting injuries on opposing players that would result in them being removed from a game," NFL said in a statement. Commissioner Goodell will determine punishment. " "The players regularly contributed cash into a pool and received improper cash payments of two kinds from the pool based on their play in the previous week’s game," NFL said

This is going to result in fines, suspensions, and probably loss of draft picks for the Saints. Knowing what I've heard from certain people about Gregg Williams' time in Buffalo and here...I don't have any doubt he played no small part in this

It's about to go down lol. Since this is the first-of-it's-kind offense, I expect big punishment.

Sorry, wait here's more

"The bounty program was administered by defensive coordinator Gregg Williams with the knowledge of other defensive coaches. Funds were contributed on occasion by Williams." The NFL said its "investigation "showed that the total amount of funds in the pool may have reached $50,000 or more at its height during the 2009 playoffs. "

I do like Greg Williams and think he is a very good defensive cord. If Joe Gibbs had not been the coach when NE was running up the score in Joe's second time, Greg would have put a bounty on Brady's ass for throwing bombs late in the 4th quarter when they were up 30+ points.

I would of put some money in that pot for that bounty.

Oh we did, they did, Packers did, etc. It's called football, not fairyball. I'm glad to hear teams still go out and punish other players lining up against them. I want to see Romo decapitated, I want to see Eli catch a high-low combo. Goodell can put the good foot forward, and have a nice pretty PR face about player safty, but I'm glad to hear that the players are still playing hard nosed football.

end rant

I'm surprised that Williams is involved, especially the one who started the program.... He is my favorite defense coordinator, or was.

I guess we shouldn't really be that shocked, we know GW is one of the most hardcore defensive coordinators in the league. I just hope he wasn't doing that with us while he was here. But yeah obviously this diminishes the respect I have for him somewhat. I was happy he won a ring, but being the ringleader of a bounty operation like that is not cool at all.

If I'm Drew Brees I'm jumping ship. Does the team pony up to pay him now though so its not complete doom and gloom? Not to ignore how horrible the story is but DB just got more powerfull in negotations I think. IF he wanted to go down with the ship that is.

re: New Orleans Saints/Washington Redskins: Bounty Hunters

The question is were the bounties for injuring people? Or was it just for legal clean hard hits and good play? If it's the first one then that's a pretty serious issue. But if it's for good hard clean play then no big deal. George Allen gave out gifts all the time for good play.

Speaking of bounties, did anything come out of this?

Brett Favre might have something to say about this. Remember the beating he took from the Saints in '09 in the playoffs?
