The Reason Art Monk isnt in the Hall
I know there is a thread about this; however, I didnt want this to get lost. I'm reading a interview on cnnsi.com, with Dr.Z , he was talking about what went on inside of the room when they were voting. I know many of us were uspet that Monk was left out of the hall, but rest easy, because Dr. Z has made me feel so much better.... Dr.Z and GMANC711 present to you the reason that Art Monk did not make the hall of fame this year.....
"SI.COM: How about Art Monk? Dr. Z: Monk was hurt by Michael Irvin being eligible this year. It's done alphabetically, and Irvin was presented before Monk. I think that really hurt him." The Reason Art Monk got f*cked again, is because M comes after I in the alphabet. Heres the link if anyone wants to read that bullcrap.http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200....qa/index.html

That's just lame. I mean I think the other way around might make some more sense because you could say Irvin is fresher in everyone's minds when the actual final voting is done.
Next time they should just go by first names since Art comes before Michael

I CAN'T BELIEVE HE ACTUALLY SAID THAT! My God. I mean at least MAKE SOMETHING UP that sounds more feasible than that. Jeebus.

or maybe this:
"SI.COM: How about Art Monk? Dr Z: Monk was hurt by the fact that Irvin hooked us up with some nice quality cocaine and hookers that were on point! Monk's fruit basket was nice but we're talking Hall of Fame ballots here

I can't think of a case where a QB has the same number of records and superbowl win as Monk and isn't in the hall. The fact that he was a wide receiver hurt him. 22 1st string football positions, 2 QB's were "locks" for 2 of the 6 openings. Every other position is going against the odds. That's just the way it is. The Skins won with three different QB's, three different RB's but Monk and Grimm were there for each. These guys need to think a little harder.

The only way now Monk will make the Hall of Fame is if he gets in the press booth or pregame as sad as that sounds. He would have to get his face out there and become popular. Or he could always hook up with some cocaine and hookers.
Edit: I would say he could be dead by the time he gets in. Look for next year or soon after that he wont even make the top 10.

Monk did what he did on the football field with CLASS and QUIET DIGNITY..........
not "flashy" enough for for the hall of fame..........no bimbos, no drugs, and Monk doesn't have his own clothing line........ GRRRRRRRRRRRR And as Darrell Green pointed out Irvin pushed off all the time too ........... And if you read some of the columns here in Texas bemoaning the fact that Irvin didn't make it to the Hall you'd be even MADDER.......... |

I personaly do not believe that Young should have made it this time around. I am not saying that because I wanted Art in there, I am saying that because Steve Young's career stats are not very impressive when it comes to the QB postition. I mean Vinny T. has more career passing yards, touchdowns, and completions than Young. What about Warren Moon, his numbers are just as good as Youngs.
I am not saying that Young should never make it to the HOF, I dont feel that his numbers are so good and that he was so good that he should be elected in his first year.

Young made the HOF because of the idiotic idea that winning a super bowl somehow makes a player a true great and the ring validates his place in the hall. Super bowl championships are very overrated when it comes to making a player HOF worthy.
Dan Marino is the greatest qb of all time and I have hear people all the time say he is questionable because he was not lucky enough to be on a super bowl winning team. |

Guys,
Young led the league in passing 6 times (that's tied for the NFL record), he's got over 30,000 passing yards and over 4000 rushing yards. He has 232 passing TD's and 43 rushing TD's as well. He's ranked in the top 20 of all-time QB's in 3 different categories, completions, passing yards and passing TD's. He was a 7 time Pro Bowl selection and 2 time league MVP. I'd say numbers wise he stacks up pretty well, and his Super Bowl win where he tossed 6 TD's (Super Bowl record) is just icing on the cake. Personally I can't argue with his selection, just my opinion of course. |
