Rod Gardner Trade Possibilities
According to Pasquarelli, the skins are very close to trading Gardner to either Minensota, Cleveland, or Seattle for "a middle round draft pick." Apparently many teams consider him a better WR than Plaxico because he's more consistent and won't seek as big of a contract.
I say if our WR corps is unhappy then we should just go ahead and trade them, and personally I don't care which of those teams it is. I'm just curious if "middle-round draft choice" means 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. I like the idea of adding draftpicks, there's a few positions where we need more depth and even if we don't net a starter from the pick we receive for Gardner, we can at least get some young depth at a position and get a player who in a couple years could become a solid contributor. Any thoughts?

trade him to the highest bidder fast, before they realize he's not that hot.

I agree. Westbrook was always injured and was a crybaby. Who knows? Maybe he will be successful somewhere else. All I know is that he never played up to his potential here in DC. |

I dont care if Minn has a lower offer we have to ship him there. It clears one more team who could draft a WR in the first away. I'd seriously work on trading Gardner and our first for their first and say 4th rounder. Then we're guranteed a WR of our choice.

Then we're forced to pay the SAME receiver more money. With the Cards inbetween us - I don't see them trading down or going receiver.
Gardner isn't as bad as people like to make him out to be. He has some concentration issues, but I feel he's the type of player that if you keep throwing him the ball he'll make more great plays than stupid plays. He gets better the more he touches it. |

Re: Rod Gardner Trade Possibilities
JoeRedskin - you mean crippled with an injury and never having a chance?
Rod Gardner was the Joe Gibbs type everyone here seems to covet. He'd stay after practice and catch an extra hundred balls or two to work on his hands. He worked hard. He kept his mouth shut. He played hard. He had bad drops, without a doubt. However, this season he was the one that made all the spectacular games. Had Gibbs not wasted timeouts GARDNER made possibly the best catch of the season to put us well within FG range. I don't think we thew it to him (or anyone for that matter) enough to see. I could see him turn into a great receiver. |
