The most important thing about next season is...
not landing another WR.
not re-signing Fred Smoot. not adding a pass rush DE or suring up the O-Line. While all of those things would be fantastic, the biggest key to Redskins success next season is going to be the play of one Patrick Ramsey. I think our WR corps is adequate where its at right now, though we could add another if we're not interested in giving Taylor Jacobs or Thrash for that matter much playing time. Fred Smoot is a top corner and I'd love to have him back, but Gregg Williams proved last year he can have one of the league's top defenses without a lot of stars (not to mention LaVar will actually be playing this year). Same thing as the pass rushing DE we need, and with the signing of Rabach our O-Line is well on it's way to getting better. But to quote Jim Mora Sr, none of that means diddly-poo if Patrick doesn't increase the level of his play. I still have faith in him, I was very happy when we drafted him in the late first round and I've been a supporter of his from the beginning, but it's time for the training wheels to come off. He's had a couple years to get accustomed to the NFL and will now be entering his second year of Joe Gibbs offense, which has a track record of being wildly successful without the most amazing of quarterbacks. It's put up or shut up time for Ramsey, no more excuses this year. Personally I'm optimistic, but I think the improved play of our most important returning starter is much more vital to our team's success than anything we're going to accomplish in March or April.

Yes the play of Ramsey is of the utmost importance come next season. As for now the sucess of the FO in getting players around him that can help Patrick to play well is of the utmost importance.

I think that if playcalling improves it's put on Ramsey, but I thought Ramsey played great except for when he was forced to come in from way behind and take over the game.
He needs to have viable plays that defenses don't already know (see Brown's game and Wilbon's post game interview) to be successful. |

Yes, I mentioned this in another thread...FA moves don't matter anymore - Ramsey has got to focus on his accuracy, seeing the field better, and develop excellent understanding of his receivers (and vice versa too).
His job will be a lot easier if the O-line blocks better for Portis. I'm strongly for ending the Ramsey experiment if the offense stinks again this year. In the division, I'm worried about Philly if they land Plexico - basically, we lose to them twice, but we have to win 3 out of 4 games against the Giants and Boys. Which means, winning 6-7 out of the 10 non-division games for a realistic shot at making the playoffs. On another note, Can we ask Brunell to restructure? his cap number this season is over 3 million - wish we could bring it down to 1.5 |

My opinion of The gun Slinger is if Gibbs starts him in the first game of the season. We make the playoffs. |

Re: The most important thing about next season is...
it amazes me at the amount of credit Gregg Williams gets...he's amazing and all, but i think he gets way too much credit when it comes to being able to produce with no name people...
Smoot is one of the core guys that Gibbs keeps talking about...and they have already let one slip away. I believe we need Smoot in order to keep our defense in the top 3. he's not a top 5 CB like he claims, but he's a great compliment to Shawn Springs. as far as what has been listed as important, there is one glaring thing we need. a healthy team leader to replace Pierce. Pierce was the backbone of the defense last year, and someone will have to step up to replace him. The O-Line should be set, with the addition of Rabach... i can't see adding another receiver (expect with a lower pick in the draft) unless Smoot is resigned and we draft a DE in the first round...

QB is key to 2005. We have the team but Ramsey must come of age.

The problem with Ramsey is that when they brake the huddle he has alreadt decieded who he is gonna throw to. Hopefully coach musgrave will beable to coach him up.

Re: The most important thing about next season is...
i never said he should be paid more...and once Ty Law signs with the Chiefs, Smoot will have to accept terms slightly less than he is expecting...
what Smoot thinks versus what the rest of us thinks differs a bit...
