Let's face it. Our WRs are set...

Get this into your freakin' head people! We will not be drafting a WR in the early rounds in the upcoming draft! No Mike Williams, no Troy Williamson, no Mark Clayton. With the additions of Moss and Patten along with Thrash, Jacobs, and Gibbs' reiterated favorite, McCants, why? It's more likely for us to draft a WR in the later rounds who's willing to be the return man and do the dirty work on special teams. Our draft priorities should reflect need at CB, DL, MLB, TE, in no particular order. I believe it's imperative that we trade down for a lower first rounder and a second rounder. And if we can get at least a third round pick for the Gardner trade, we should be able to fufill those needs with some great talent. How's this?

1. CB Marlin Jackson Michigan
2. DE Matt Roth Iowa
3. TE Alex Smitn Stanford
3. MLB Barrett Rudd Nebraska
4. DT Eric Coleman Clemson
5. WR Jerome Mathis Hampton (That's right! He won't be selected in the early rounds)
6. C Vince Carter Oklahoma
7. Go figure

Of course, the chips don't have to fall exactly this way. As every selection garners consideration of drafting the best player available that fills your need.

I wouldnt mind that. Does Gregg Williams have a history of having aggressive pass rushing de's? He seems to throw alot of linebacker's and safeties at the line of scrimmage

You got it BossHog! Finally, someone that agrees with me and isn't completely enamoured with the top WR's in the draft. Not to say they wouldn't be good, but WR is probably only second to QB in terms of 1st round "locks" becoming busts.
Gibbs is modeling this team after teams like the Patriots, and HIS teams in the 80's....blue collar, team-oriented mentality. We will be fine with the WR's we have. They are better than the group Philly had before last year, and comparable to NE's group of the past few years....plus two of them (Thrash and Patten) know what it was like in those winning environments. We have 5 receivers that could be at least a #2 or #3 on any NFL team....at least one of them is bound to step it up and take the lead spot.
And I totally agree that they will probably pick up a WR in a later round, but I think more as a "project" to groom for a couple years on the practice squad.
I see them trading down to pick up a 2nd or high 3rd rounder and going defense with the first one or two picks (CB and maybe DE).

I agree. Gibbs has hand picked the guys he feels is going to make this offense go. And I believe Greg Williams has the final say on the defensive side.

I'm curious... so if Williams was available with out #1 pick would you pass him up?

would I? No, But it's hard to figure our leadership out at times. But it appears obvious that Williams would have more of an impact on a game then a rookie de. This draft is not very deep at de, so we may be inflating Erasmus' worth.

No way! Unless someone is offering a very nice trade up package, I think we have to take that guy. We have a team full of #3 recivers; and a #2. Now could we make it work, yeah. If our running game is dangerous and Ramsey is on cue then we could make it work with me and Cypane 5 running routes. However, I dont think we can assume that our offense is going to get that much better overnight; so I think if Williams is there, we need that threat on the team. Just having him on the feild will take pressure off of Santana Moss, and then all those quick hits we keep thinking about could become reality. Now, if someone is offering a nice package then I say we have to think about it. But if Williams is there; our offense was just too bad last year to go untouched.

I assume we're talking about Troy Williamson. The answer is yes. We have already addressed our starting WR corps. Sorry for the dose of reality.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. The Browns are going to release Lavars buddy Cortny Brown and we might get him at D.E. (You heard it here first)
Then we could draft a WR or CB. Just a thought.
Gibbs did say yesterday that we still could sign some released players.

Yes, things are going to change in the upcoming weeks. I would hate to see another injury prone DE (see Daniels) signed.

Starting with Bruce, we just keep signing older, more mediocre talent on the defensive line. Well, maybe not older than Bruce Smith. But I still cant get the bad taste out of my mouth whenever we talk about free agent defensive linemen.

I think you're right that we have addressed our starting WR corps. And that's precisely what worries me. Santana Moss is the guy who the Jets were about to demote to their #3 WIDEOUT. David Patten had solid numbers and could be a top notch number 2, but he's not going to light up opposing defenses. Taylor Jacobs has what 5 catches in his career? James Thrash....nuff said.

I have the creepy feeling that we're trying to do with out WR corps what we did with our D-line two years ago.....get a bunch of mediocre players who we hope to get the most out of.

Considering how many people bitched about our WR corps last year, I find it surpring that people seem content with our current WR corps. Does anyone really think we've improved our offense with the loss of Coles and Gardner and the addition of Moss and Patten?
