Feels like doom

Just venting, feels like they can't do anything right since Snyder bought the team, not just that they can't do anything right, that they can't do anything DIFFERENT. No matter who's in charge save perhaps briefly under Schotty the team has the same identity year in and year out club med identity. Lots of penalties, a schizophrenic offense, and DUMB Penalties every year... How many Illegal procedure penalties does Fred Davis need to get before he stops smoking weed and starts paying attention in meetings? Fred do you give a crap about your career buddy? What a waste.

Here is where you go to get paid, here is where you go to enjoy semi-retirement, to smooze with Billionaire Owner and Tom Cruize. Here is where you go to collect your reward for working hard on another team.

No coach has a chance with an owner like Snyder, wether it's Clinton Portis undermining the Coach hanging out with the owner or RGIII, the names change the expectations stay the same and the next year is usually a predictable circus/debacle. And yeah this off season I was expecting this season to go significantly worse than people's ludicrous Superbowl expectations... The same expectations every year no matter how thin and empty the team is, like a sick joke.

Was Denver a circus like this? NO course not... it's not the Bronco's identity.

Now how much of the Shanahan era do we lay at Snyders feet? No one wants to admit it but a lot of these moves do not resemble Shanahan's moves in Denver, he usually found his RB's in the late rounds, he wasn't enthralled with end of their career retreads... You know like SNyder has been? McNabb? How much of that was Snyder wanting to sell tickets? Skins fans have this idea that Shanahan wouldn't take any guff off the owner, I disagree, he's mega wealthy. and he writes the checks. It is Naivety itself to suppose Snyder had NO input in these suspiciously Snyderatto like retread deals.

Even RGIII trade smells (to me if no one else) of Snyder... Especially when Shanahan thumbed his nose at Snyder (at least to my mind) and drafted the QB he really wanted (Hey just my opinion, no proof, but it's certainly plausible to suggest that the way Shanahan has dealt with both McNabb AND RGIII that they may not be his first choice, but rather the owner pushing his own ideas once again making long term crippling moves to try and win now in the short term.)

Let me ask you: how many MULTIPLE 1st rounders Has Shanahan spent on high pick QB's in his lengthy career? How many were he traded multiple 1st round picks to get the guy? IMO Shanahan is egotist enough to believe he can make a mid 1st round QB or a 2nd rounder work or... You know maybe even egotist enough to think he can make Rex Grossman and John Beck work? Oh wait he did that.

We have the worst media in sports, and the most unrealistically entitled overly expectant fans. Now before you get all defensive I will prove it to you:

If Carolina was our team last year we and our Media would have rabble rabbled until Snyder fired Ron Rivera, go on, you can admit it. If Last years Lions where our team? Yep go on admit it, cause you know it's true we would have sent Jim Schwartz into the land of humiliated coaches fired by Snyder because he runs the team like a Fan does and an incompetent fan at that. Those teams are slowly improving year after year because they DON'T throw away draft picks trying to instantly win. While the Redskins of this season are remarkably like the Redskins of 15 years ago; thread bare draft picks, no depth (Depth it is often said shows up on special teams... when you have Depth you have guys that might start on other teams on your special teams, you nend up with GOOD special teams). Is 4 years of "rebuilding" not enough? Not according to what I see around the league... Except a few flukes and a few examples of teams that had a crazy bad year but have talent... How long did the Post Young/Rice 49'ers struggle to rebuild? The difference between them and the Skins is they played the hard seasons, and they used their draft picks and they didn't throw money around... waste resources or have a off season Superbowl Parade every summer.

None of this is to forgive Shanahan, this team still bungles time outs, it still has some bone heads on the roster. The team still commits selfish "me first before the team" penalties and is a media circus that embarrasses Redskins fans SO OFTEN that we are frankly USED TO BEING THE LEAGUES SOAP OPERA.

RGIII: he can't make a second read consistently, he's regularly leaving open guys untargeted. He often doesn't come off his primary he never makes outlet passes unless they are designed screens, he doesn't look off the safety, he stairs down Receivers and he can't feel the rush, step up in the pocket and get his feet set to make an accurate throw...

historically QB's who can't do this do not suddenly figure it out. Pocket presence has been described as a "you have it or you don't" skillset by every EX-NFL QB turned analyst I've ever listened to. Sliding is also something you (mostly) either have or you don't, Go watch Jason Campbell this year: Still not able to slide!, Still not able to remember to put his mouth piece in (goes to his methodology and consistency). Still hesitant with the ball, still no pocket presence. Luck came into the league being able to progress reads, slide and has that distinct ability to side step or shrug his shoulder and avoid a sack. Big Ben had it in his first year... (though he still can't slide).

He's a bright kid, and I really like him, but instinctual behaviors are not often taught with any success. I'm 99% sure that Shanahan has determined the same thing... and will be quietly shopping RGIII this offseason (NO WAY! GASP! UNPOSSIBLE! UNTHINKABLE!) to try and recoup a 1st rounder, should he still be here by some craziness . Probably I'll never know unless Shanahan writes a tell all book LOL. I'm also sure he expects not to be here but knows he has to run things as though he will be here just in case, and doesn't want to ess the bed by revealing his hand vis a vis RGIII. Edit to clarify: I think Shanahan is just big enough of an egotist to think he has a chance to not be fired, even thought he apparently wants to be. and I think he's also not wanting to ruin RGIII's trade value by tipping his hand like he did when he humiliated McNabb)

Fire away if you got this far I'm not pretending this is anything but my frustrated opinion with no facts to back it, vilify me for saying what we all dread deep down inside. Gasp that someone who doesn't post often has a strong opinion (hopefully you guys don't mind me venting) Whatever, nothing changes and the only thing left over from 99, 2000, 2001, 2002 and etc. the only constant is Dan Snyder. And to think I was happy he bought the team because I didn't think the milktoast John C Cooke wanted to commit to wining (i.e. spend in the new free agent era)... Spending turned out to be a bad thing. Who knew. Dan Snyder is going to outlive me in all likelihood, he's younger, at least Cowboys fans can see a glimmer down the tunnel when their ego-maniacal owner isn't ruining their team. But Snyder has succeeded IMO in doing something Jerrah never did, he's gotten the fans to think his lousy short term strategies and same terrible results year in and year out (even when they occasionally have a decent season it's always marred with dumb s**t and bad penalties and turn over fests) in short the IDENTITY of the team is set in stone until such a day as the egomaniac puts his own ego after the operation of the team.

The only thing I'm sure of is this being the longest thread starter I've ever seen.

Re: Feels like doom

I agree with every single thing said in that post. It was long and i read it all, but i can tell it's well thought out and i can feel the personal feelings in the words.

I'm 30 years old and I can't think of a time worse than this. Maybe some folks older than me can remember years worse than this, but i'm also being told by a lot of life-long skins fans that this is the worst they've ever seen.

a feeling of doom is a good way to put it. The redskins are in such a bad way right now that it has changed my entire perspective of football. I used to look forward to it each Sunday, even though for years it usually resulted in an embarrassing loss for us. Still - i could have friends over and share beers and kind of enjoy the "sorrow" together.

But this is different. I've never been a part of anything this hopeless. The coaches all know they are going to be fired. I have never seen a redskins stadium empty before halftime like i did against the chiefs. Very chilling to be honest.

And the worst part is that Snyder doesn't know how to fix whats wrong. He's done his absolute best i think, but bottom line we are going to be treated to a rinse and repeat rehash of everything that we've seen over the last 5 years...the coaching carousel, poor talent evaluation (Trading all those picks for a bust QB).....i just have to try and have hope but it is difficult...

Once a post goes into RG3 cant do "this", wont do "this" or will never do "this" is when i stop reading and cant take the opinion seriously. It started our as a decent post, then went dumb.

Agree about the media part, ive said it since day one, DC media is some of the worse in the country. hands down bad. I think the city and the surrounding suburbs have something to do with it, not really sure
