Daron Payne
Hopefully this comes to fruition:

Re: Daron Payne
We definitely gotta find a way to extend him.

Re: Daron Payne
I wanted him traded for a 1st and keep Settle, this is his best year, glad they kept him. Let’s hope he keeps it up after he gets paid.

Re: Daron Payne
Payne and Allen are freaks on the DL. Honestly I’d rather keep Payne over CY. Payne is reliable and consistent. Young hasn’t played in a year.

Re: Daron Payne
Payne always suits up. He's been the most consistent guy on the team from an injury standpoint.

Re: Daron Payne
Are we paying him or applying a franchise of over 18 million next year?
I’d have a hard time franchising him at that number even though I love mf’er. I think you got to try to sign him

Re: Daron Payne
If it comes to a decision between paying D Payne 18 million or significantly upgrading the offensive line, I hope they let him walk.

My guess is Ron will give Payne a solid offer, if he rejects that then we will know where Payne's intentions are.

Re: Daron Payne
DL is a tipping point kind of thing. If you just have 1 good guy, he gets doubled every play and no big deal. 2 good players, they can double both, but that puts the offense in a slightly worse position. 3 good players... they can't double up without allowing a huge advantage to the secondary. 4 good players... good luck.
It's possible he's benefitting from the other players around him a bit (increasing his perceived value), but a lot of winning came off of having a great DL, so I'd rather not mess with it. I'd take Payne over Wentz, and that leaves the team +7mill. I don't think he's worth 18m a year (so get a team-friendlier deal done), but unless there's a better way to spend that money (like a superstar QB)... I assume the OT will be drafted and every year you see $1-2m OGs playing good ball, we just don't have them right now (so Payne shouldn't obstruct fixing the OL). Also, still think too many people are jumping off the Chase Young train too early. |

Re: Daron Payne
Can we have him? That guy is a stud with 8.5 sacks and 51 total tackles. We need somebody on our defense like that.

Re: Daron Payne
Even though our offense mostly stinks, our WRs are our 2nd strongest position group. Don't necessarily need Watson. But Watson has more team control. I'd actually do that trade if we couldn't come to a long term contract with Payne. Watson for 3 more years > Payne for 1 more year, assuming we had to franchise tag him. That would actually be a fairly fair trade, assuming we couldn't extend Payne and you guys could.
Ideally we keep the Bama Bro's together with a long term contract with Payne.
