Re: Portis in 2005

I say 1500 +. With Jansen back and the signing of Casey Rabach our line should be solid. Plus with Gibbs implementing more stretch/zone blocking plays.....that alone will up his average to more than 4 yards a pop.

1300-1500. The more relevant stat is how many TDs will he get.

Re: Portis in 2005

I say 1500+ or really close to it.

The offensive line should be much improved, but more importantly the passing game should be improved.

Daseal, unless you're concerned about fantasy stats why does his TDs matter?

With the two FBs we took in the draft and a possible heavier workload for Betts, I wouldn't be surprised to see less of Portis in goal line situations.

last time I checked, highest score wins a football game, not most total yardage. yeah big yards from portis will help control the game and the tempo and should lead to long drives, but I'll take 1300 yards and 13 touchdowns over 1600 and 7.

True but what I'm saying is who cares if it's Portis or someone else who gets the TDs?

hm yeah I agree with that, but I'd like to see Clinton get some breakaway TD's like the first carry of the season last year, I mean 63 yard touchdown runs arent very common but with his skill he should be able to break off 30 and 40 yard touchdown runs, help stretch the offense out, help the verticality of the offense by drawing more defenders into the box and opening up play action routes. I think it's a very telling sign of our offense that he only ran for 5 last year, I expect him to double that this year.

Re: Portis in 2005

i think he get 1500+ this year because basically our line is better than denver's line this year. with the speedy receivers we have now you have to keep that box from being crowded like it was last year. which means lbs against portis in the open field lace up your shoes because it will be a track meet.

Portis wont be getting the short yardage TD's. Thats Why we drafted those big full-backs. He'll end up with 7 or 8.

Re: Portis in 2005

I'm going with 1500+, he ALMOST got there last year and was injured for one of those games. Not to mention the patchwork offensive line, new coaching staff with a whole new philosophy to learn AND playing against the Steelers and Eagles defenses more than once.

I say 1500+ easily.

Re: Portis in 2005

1500+..........with absolutely zero doubt in my mind. It's all been said already. Healthier o-line (Jansen), improved o-line (Rabach), second year with Bugel as o-line coach, second year under Gibbs (more productive offense.....better play calling), Ramsey as the QB, and speedier WRs.
Most importantly, I think he gets those 1500+ yards with a much higher YPC (I'll throw out 4.8 as a guess).
