Gibbs, Redskins figure to struggle again

Here's an article we should tuck away and read at the end of the 2005 season, hopefully it will provide a good laugh.

i'd like to see what he and the "odds makers" said about the chargers last year.

you have to play the games to determine the winners and losers.

Re: Gibbs, Redskins figure to struggle again

sometimes i feel like reading those articles are a waste of time. sometimes i wonder if i should be a redskins fan for all the shit i have to put up with from fans of other teams. but articles like those boil my blood. they only make me more determined to prove them wrong. unfortunately for me, there's nothing i can do. all i can do is wait and hope, and wait and hope some more. i wish that guy's car broke down next to my house, just so i could release some of my anger. but im going to let the redskins play this season speak for me.

Wow. That's such a load of horse shit. Arrington injury-prone? ONE FREAKIN' SEASON. We lose two players on the defense and suddenly we aren't even a top ten D? Also, he says Gibbs is in panic mode? How so?

Oh wait, I guess he forgot to mention how low-key our offseason was. I guess he also forgot to mention that we already RAN a west-coast offense. It's a running game with short, accurate passes. What a douche.

It's funny how the dude was so negative about our D. We did just fine without Arrington last season, played well when Smoot was out with injury, and we now have a number of candidates who can adequately replace Pierce at MLB (let's not forget he was a backup at the beginning of the season). That reporter must be a Cowboys fan, considering how badly he disrespected us. We'll see how much laughing he's doing in December. :smashfrea

Re: Gibbs, Redskins figure to struggle again

I was going to say the exact same thing. "Injury prone" is something you say to try and sound like you know what the hell you're talking about. He might as well have written: "On top of that, the Redkins return in 2005 with a seriously injury prone lineup. Patrick Ramsey, LaVar Arrington, Jon Jansen, Matt Bowen, Michael Barrow, Andre Lott, and Phillip Daniels all missed significant playing time over the last several years due to injuries." Make sure it's implied that if the guy missed more than 8 games in the last three years that he's likely to have his knees spontaneously combust at any given moment. It's pretty ridiculous. If you're going to argue that we won't have a good year, you can make a decent case especially since I think it's true you could say we have "unproven wide recievers" and an "unproven QB". However, It's a stretch to say our secondary will be worse (unless ST doesn't play) and our LB core and Dline look to be better simply due to people returning from injuries.

I still believe that we will begin to win at some point simply due to a change of culture and a change of attitude. Someone else pointed out how remarkable the change was last year when we played hard the to the end. We thrashed the Vikings worse than the score indicated and they won a playoff game. If we score 7 more points a game, we go 11-5 at worst not counting the screw-job against green bay. 5 points more a game puts us barely in the top 20 in offense (points-wise) and makes us 10-6. Remember that most people who comment on this don't watch our games. They see the the losses and see the stats for how poor our offense was and draw their conclusions. Those people are best ignored. These are the same people that would say Portis was a "system back". I has the fortune of being in Albuquerque and seeing all the broncos games during Portis's last season in Denver. You would have to be the world's biggest retard to say that after actually watching those games. The man has moves on moves.

nice post but i hope you don't consider me the world's biggest retard when i say, IN A WAY, portis is a system back. yes he has moves on top of moves but in order for him to make those moves he has to have space and for him to have space he needs to be in a SYSTEM that creates space. joe gibbs' system did not create enough space for portis to be at his full efectivness last year which is why gibbs and co have decided to get smaller , faster wr and spread the formations out this coming season. portis is not a ONE system back, i'm sure there are multiple systems he would excell in but he did not fit into joe's system last year. so to say clinton portis is not a system back is not completely true nor false.

Re: Gibbs, Redskins figure to struggle again

The article in question is not well written and the "research" in it seems more than a bit superficial.

However, let's not get too carried away with emotions here.

LaVar Arrington was hurt last year for the entire season AND he had injuries that hampered him the year before - but did not keep him out of games.

Michael Barrow might in fact be finished as an NFL player; training camp will decide that for us and for him. So "injury prome" might be the BEST thing you can say about him.

Phillip Daniels has been hurt for the majority of two of the last three seasons.

Those are facts; now if someone wants to say those defensive players are "injury prome", that's his prerogative. But it makes no sense to get angry at him and deny the existence of those injuries and that injury history.

Personally, I think the defense played over its head last year and I am fully expecting a decline in the defense this year. At the same time, the offense played way under its capability last year and I am fully expecting an improvement in the offense this year.

And it would not surprise me a bit if injuries were not a major factor in the Skins' record for 2005. There are a few places where the roster has precious little depth so an injury or two in those areas could be disastrous. On the other hand, a relatively injury free season ought ot put the Skins right in the middle of the playoffs in January.

Here's something about which I am absolutely certain. If for whatever reasons, the Skins record is 6-10 once again, no one here will dig out this thread and say that the author here "nailed it" and that the Skins' fans had their heads up their butts back in July.

Now, see, I disagree SC! I think our D will be just as great with G. Williams, and it did not play over it's head last year. He finally made them see their way to living up to their potential! I agree that our O will be better, and that injuries are indeed a factor.

Because I disagree, doesn't make either of us retards! I generally do not read the other outside threads posted, unless it looks good for us. If the comments about the writer are not good, don't waste your time! I don't! There will be hundreds more articles written about the upcoming season very soon, both during, and after TC!

Note to JacobyFan: Just where do you get one of those "Shoot to the Sun Thingies"? See, I've got this lazy, retarded son-in-law.................................

Re: Gibbs, Redskins figure to struggle again

That guy was contradicting himself. He said Gibbs wasn't adjusting to the newly evolved NFL, and was using system that wasn't working, yet further down in the article, he's criticizing Gibbs for installing the shotty.
Sounds to me like he just writing for writing's sake

I agree. It just goes to show how you can't trust anything said on the internet.

Look guys, I'm "senior writer" of malcolmsportsdaily.com

Anybody can make their bullshit sound legit by adding senior in front of it. ESPECIALLY if it was "Senior Writing Specialist". That's like Jesus of writing.

Re: Gibbs, Redskins figure to struggle again

What gets me is he says essentially we were lucky to have a great D last season and we've lost Smoot and Pierce for this season then mentions that two years ago we lost Bailey. Well, we survived losing Bailey fairly well?

I still believe that our D will be much better.

I'd be curious to know what he wrote after Dick Vermeil's first year with the Rams
