Brunell is a Different Quarterback
I was one of Ramsey's biggest fans last year, but Brunell just looks so much better this preseason. Did he even throw one bad pass tonight? I hate that it looks like we have another quarterback controversy, at least I think there is one, but I'd be okay with Brunell starting the season instead of Ramsey...and I hated him last year. I think there was more than a few of us who wanted the skins just to cut him this year, but he looks great now. I'm glad we have him; at least we know we have a good backup if one goes down.
As for Ramsey's performance, he looked okay. I thought his worst pass was not the interception, but the play when he had the controlled rollout to the right and threw long - practically out of bounds. That throw sucked, if he would have led thw wideout over the correct shoulder that would have been a touchdown. I do like that play though and I'd like to see more of it. Re: Brunell is not the same player as last yr
I'm a Ramsey supporter....but if he slips or get's injured this year it will be tough to get his job back from Brunell.

Brunell played well, but Ramsey should definately still be the starter. Brunells receivers got a lot more open than ramseys and brunell was playing against backups, but he still had the starting o-line

Only problem is, Brunell has seen action mainly against opposing backups. Ramsey's faced starters.
The way I see it, Brunell had his starting chance last year, now we need to see Ramsey start and see what he's made of once and for all. |

I think ramsey is gonna do great. I've thought that all along. His INT was circumstancial (he did get hit). He read the field good and even showed a little mobility. Against the D he was playing, I was impressed. Brunell is doing great against second stringers, but I'm not sold on him as a starter. I am alot more comfortable with him in the backup role though.

Regardless, I think we should feel good about the QB situation overall.
Who knows, maybe Brunell will have some trade value later this year. |

Brunnell looked very good--I agree, not the same guy. Wonder how long his health would last if he starts, though... Ramsey should start, and Brunnell will make a great backup. And if Ramsey really struggles, then Brunnell will get his shot.
As for the INT, Ramsey has got to eat that ball.

Ramsey looked a hell of lot better than Big Ben though!

Re: Brunell is not the same player as last yr
Bottom line is both our guys moved the ball well against a very good defense. One mistake should be expected. At least I know I expected one (even though I hoped I was wrong). What was nice is that Ramsey came back and led the team. He didn't force things.
Also, we have to be happy with our o-line and running game.

Re: Brunell is not the same player as last yr
Brunnel did good and is playing better than last year, wierd that he played poorly last year, maybe gibbs knew what he was doing getting him?
O well Ramsey did great, he made one mistake but anytime we get over 200 yards in a half i am happy, and that against the number 1 d |

What a difference a dominating O-Line makes. Less happy feet, more time, better decisions, except that one errant desperation lob that Polomalu <sp> snagged.
Steelers offense scored 3 points, and that ain't bad. Good job Redskins! |

Re: Brunell is not the same player as last yr
I wasnt sure if the steelers had their first team defense or not on the field for brunells first drive,I would think thet had some starters in there,I'm surprised ramsey didnt play longer,I would have liked to see him play the 3rd qt,I think he needs all the playing time he can get in game situations with our new receiving corp,I hope he plays 2 qtrs next week, not just one series then out

Re: Brunell is not the same player as last yr
Ramsey is our starter and should do fine for us this season. We need him to make good decisions and not force the ball and make turnovers. He still has to work on his accuracy when he throws deep, but the thing I am liking a lot is that our receivers seem to be getting open all the time. Last yr, it seemed as if we would get no separation, making it harder to get the ball in there. If moss, patten, and co. can keep this up, ramsey will be able to hit them sooner or later.
Also, I think ramsey defnitely looked more comfortable in the pocket tonite. Is it just me or is he a lot more mobile now than he has been in the past? I loved how he side-stepped that defender when he was runshed and also how he was able to leap over the pile to get us the first down on 4th and inches. Overall, I am really excited about our offense this year and our ability to move the ball with our great running game and our improved passing game. I have always believed in ramsey and given the time to get used to our new schemes and receivers, and also with the added insurance of having portis in the backfield the entire game, he will be the guy to lead us to a special year. |
