McCant knows our playbook and that's probably why they want to sign him. I would if it will give me some insight into the mind of Gibbs.

Re: Eagles ink McCants?

As far as this haunting us, it is totally out of our control, the guy was playing like a turd here, and there was no room for him. Sure, he might get a second wind, or find some motivation and pickup his game, but that doesn't mean he was going to do that with the skins ...

As far has him knowing our playbook, I don't think its a concern, this guy supposedly wasn't even looking at our plays. If that was case we would have palyed the eagles better when we got trotter and the giants when we got armstead and barrow. Not to mention Thrash, who you cat bet knew the eagles play book real well ....

The "intelligence" that other teams can gather from signing a player like McCants is very limited. Coaches know opponents are going to sign former players and fill the playbook with dummy plays and formations. Moreover, Gibbs is revamping his playbook and he probably doesn't know how he is going to gameplan for the first DC-Philly game. So, I don't see McCants' signing as a threat to us (at least in terms of intelligence).

I expect McCants to make the team. I also anticipate that he will be the #4 wideout for Philly; with Owens, Lewis, and White ahead of him on the depth chart. While I'm not nervous about the signing, I think McCants will do well (for a #4 wideout) in Philly.

Well I hope that he isn't any better than Trotter was at explaining the Philly blitz packages to Spurrier. Then again I don't think Spurrier even knew Trotter's first name?
I kind of don't like players who stay in the same division. Don't they understand how much we hate our divisional rivals in the East?

I doubt this will haunt us. Plus I'm hearing that the Eagles are more interested in Peerless Price. Wherever McCants lands....I doubt he'll make that much of an impact.

Profootballtalk.com used to be a wildly inaccurate site. I would often write of their "reports" as pure rumor and speculation. However, in the past few months, the site has been improving. I don't always take their reports at face value, but on occasion they have some interesting "articles."

PS-They usually are pretty funny.

oi, what i was afraid of. maybe that's why Gibbs cut him first round, cuz he's a DOUBLE-AGENT?

hope McCants wasn't paying any kind of attention.

I would call it more of a guilty pleasure. You have to take the rumors with a grain of salt.

Re: Eagles ink McCants?

Here's the latest from another excellent site:

Philadelphia Eagles: According to ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli, the Eagles are poised to add a veteran wide receiver to the roster, but it won't be Peerless Price or Peter Warrick, both of whom were released Tuesday by the Atlanta Falcons and Cincinnati Bengals, respectively. Instead, the Eagles huddled with veteran free agent Darnerian McCants on Wednesday, and plan to sign him after their Thursday preseason finale.

A club official said the team already has reached agreement in principle on a contract for McCants, but that he had a pass a physical exam and that there were a few other elements that had to be addressed. Additionally, coaches did not want to release a player currently on the Philadelphia roster, since McCants would not be up to speed enough to participate in Thursday's preseason game.

McCants, 27, was released by the Washington Redskins earlier this week. He is a player the Eagles staff likes, and has enjoyed some success against the Philadelphia defense, with 11 catches for 149 yards and one touchdown in four appearances. A fifth-round pick of the Redskins in the 2001 draft, McCants fell out of favor with the current Washington staff, but the Eagles feel he can provide a solid No. 4 presence.

The former Delaware State standout has intriguing size (6-feet-3, 215 pounds), presents a big target, and might in time develop into a contributor in the Eagles offense. McCants has appeared in 29 games, with three starts, and has 53 receptions for 687 yards and eight touchdowns. Beyond Terrell Owens, the young wide receivers on the Eagles roster have a combined 27 catches

Re: Eagles ink McCants?

well, thats where we thought he'd land, so no real surprises if he ends up there.

he has no injury problems and hasn't had a lot of opportunities or QB consistancy here, the WR corp in philly blows hard, and the QB is better... I think that's just about as good a chance as he'll have in his career to make something of himself.

Re: Eagles ink McCants?

I just don't see how McCants gets cut, while Jacobs gets a free pass. Say all you want about speed and potential, it means nothing if you spend most of the time nursing injuries.

With Patten, Moss, and Thrash secured, and Antonio Brown seemingly locking up the main kick and punt returner spot, it meant a choice between Dyson, Jacobs and McCants. Based solely on their performances as Redskins, McCants has by far the most production.

You have to give the nod to the coaches using their best judgement, but I don't like the move.
