FireFox???
I just downloaded FireFox. I am using it right now, anyhow can someone tell me why it is better or not better than Internet Explorer? Is it just another internet access software? I am just looking for like the pro's and con's of it I guess...

Re: FireFox???
Tabbed browsing is a HUGE positive.
It also isn't as insecure in relation to spyware.

Re: FireFox???
Yeah, tabs is really the feature that sticks out. If it wasn't tabbed, I'd probably still be using IE.
Open a new tab by either clicking File->New Tab or hit Ctrl+T

Re: FireFox???
Also, if you have a middle mouse button, press that on any link you want and you'll open up a separate tab.

Re: FireFox???
I find it to be faster and it doesn't lock up and slow down as much as IE does.

Re: FireFox???
For web developers it has a bunch of nice plugins that help with layout and testing. Plus we developers tend to be anti-Microsoft so it has that going for it.

Re: FireFox???
Speaking of faster, you might want to try and download Firetune. It optimizes Firefox.

Re: FireFox???
The biggest reason I love Firefox over IE is because of the Extensions you can add to it. It is way more customizable than IE, and doesn't have anywhere near the problems. Adblock is a Godsend.

Re: FireFox???
get the open in IE extension, get adblock... you'll NEVER have to see an add ever again. Also get sessionsaver, you can close your browser with however many tabs open and then when you reopen it, all the sites pop back up. And if it ever crashes, you'll never lose your place. I alo use google preview and gmail notifier.

Re: FireFox???
The only time I use IE is if I am downloading windows media files from buymusic.com. I love firefox except for it's rendering of some javascript and java code. Sometimes, it will stack buttons on top of each other instead of having them laid out side by side(like they should be.) However, other than that, I use Firefox exclusively. It is much faster than IE, because it doesn't have the other junk that is embedded in IE. You can even tweak the speed by inplementing pipelining. If you're using broadband...you'll see the most benefit out of pipelining.
I have just installed the javascript blocker for my computer at work. It's a bit annoying at first, however, it's another good safety feature in my opinion!

Re: FireFox???
I've been using Firefox for quite a while now but I recently downloaded and started using the new free Opera browser. So far so good. It uses tabbed browsing like Firefox and the magic wand feature is very nice.

Re: FireFox???
also check out the bugmenot plugin... it is useful for when you don't want to register to read an online journal or newspaper article.
