Portis is Dejected

Did anyone else notice the dejected look on Mr. Portis yesterday after the game? That is what I love about a leader, he is really pissed off they did not win that game....Why do I bring this up???? Because he is the leader of this team and that dejection will translate to the practice field this week and into the film room this week to make sure this feeling doesn't happen again two weeks in a row.

Kudos to the coaching staff for making this "team" a cohesive unit and not falling apart under any circumstance this current season. The leadership of the staff and the leadership of the players (Portis, Brunell, etc) is going to pay off HUGE in this long run to January 2006.

Maybe he was pissed Gibbs didn't call on him for the 2-pt conversion at the end? Hope not.

He should really be pissed with himself for dropping the ball and not reacting to the play. Every time Portis fumbles we have loss. (Giants and Browns) How can you not know the play is called for you 3 seconds after leaving the huddle?

Re: Portis is Dejected

I was impressed with Portis overall yeasterday (minus the fumble). He played hurt, got over 100, and was great on blitz pickup. Of course he was dejected. He is a leader, he wants to win, and we were so close. Now they need to take this hatred of losing, and use it to motivate them. Next week is a very tough one.

Portis did play his arse off yesterday. For the most part our whole team did. Unfortunately we had some bad luck and ultimately didn't have enough points when time ran out. Great effort yesterday. Sure he looked dejected yesterday. You know he wanted to come into Denver and win against his old team. A new Broncos #26 ran for 2 huge, long TD's.

The fumble wasn't Portis' fault alone. I don't any one can blame a bad hand-off on just the RB.

Re: Portis is Dejected

maybe his dejection also had to do with seeing how well his super cheap replacement was doing and that he might not be the one of the two with 1500 at the end of the season... not what i think, but just a thought.

Exactly. And that super cheap replacement came to the Broncos as a result of our throwing in a second round pick in what should have been an even player-for-player trade.

Anybody remember just what the reasoning was as to why we gave up the second rounder in addition to Champ?

i could be wrong, but i think it had something to do with salary cap purposes. both signed new contracts after they went to their new teams, but the numbers were off before the trade.

Re: Portis is Dejected

While Portis may not have been the best RB we could have gotten for Bailey (Alexander was a real possibility and fits better into Gibbs' scheme) he is the perfect leader for our team. He's outspoken, seems to be popular with the media, seems to be beloved by both the players and the staff. He takes responsibility, he steps up to make others play harder.

Long story short, his stats haven't been great since coming to DC, but who's stats have? I wouldn't change that move for anything. While Denver got a very talented back in Tatum Bell with our 2nd round pick, until he turns into the leader that Portis is I can't buy that Denver got the best of the deal. We had to deal Bailey because he didn't want to be here anymore. The fumble sucked, but it was early and Portis played his ass off. It's not like it was a nice temperature and sunny. It was pouring down nasty rain, I can accept many more mistakes in weather like that.

Daseal, could not agree with you more, no one up to this year had good stats. Portis is leaps and bounds above Tatum Bell, who did have a good game against us on two broken plays. Slowly our offense is developing so many weapons and the field is spreading. Denver as well has a good run D and Portis had over a 5 yard per carry average and would have been more if not that 25-30 yard run got called back. The D's are spreading and giving us respect and more room for everyone to improve. With a better overall offense to include O line Portis stats will develop, but you also have to understand Portis has taken on the unselfish role or passed on the individual attitude for a team concept and good rotation with Betts that dismisses some of his carries no matter where they are on the field. Everyone gets caught up on his TDS, we have still been scoring in the red zone here the past two weeks who cares if it is Portis or Sellers. Heaven knows I don't!!

Re: Portis is Dejected

just for the record portis didnt fumble!! Brunell got credit for that. whether he fumbled or not its a team loss just as it is when we win so dont blame one individual. are we really skin fans here? look at the positives and not the negatives guys and we have ALOT of positives!!
