Final NFC Contenders (merged)
Seattle is the ONLY NFC team that has definitely filled a spot in the playoffs. So Seattle at 11-2 is in.
Seattle (11-2) Tampa (9-4) Carolina (9-4) Atlanta (7-5) before playing New Orleans on MNF Chicago (9-4) Minnesota (8-5) REDSKINS (7-6) 12-18 vs Dallas (8-5) 12-24 vs NY Giants (9-4) 1-1 @ Philadelphia (5-7) GIANTS (9-4) 12-17 vs Kansas City (8-5) 12-24 @ Washington (7-6) 12-31 @ Oakland (4-8) COWBOYS (8-5) 12-18 @ Washington (7-6) 12-24 @ Carolina (9-4) 1-1 vs St Louis (5-8) Thats 8 teams all in contention for 6 spots. I'll go ahead and give #1 to Seattle. You can also bet that at least 2 teams from the nfc south will probably get in leaving 5 teams to contend for 3 spots. If you say the Giants win the nfc east then theres now 4 teams for 2 spots and my best guess is that the 4 teams will be the Redskins, Cowboys, Vikings or Bears, and probably Falcons. I haven't exactly played out each teams schedule to see what exactly needs to happen yet. If anyone would like to add some more to the point scenarios please do so. I sure hope the Skins can get their hands on one of the last spots! |

Re: final nfc contenders
We win out we get in and it's as simple as that. We would have only two NFC conference losses and that would be better than all of the teams in contention for the wildcard spots.

Yep, for the first time in a long time all we have to do to get to the post-season is win our games and not worry about anyone else.

Re: final nfc contenders
The playoffs are set like this. 4 division winners make the playoffs, 2 teams get wildcard. So it looks something like this right now. Take the best team from each division and give them a spot.
Seattle Chicago Tampa Bay New York Giants leaving a bunch of other teams in contention for two wildcard spots. the teams that still have a chance at wildcard are: Atlanta Carolina Dallas Washington Minnesota |

Re: final nfc contenders
Aside from the 4 division heads, I would say that either Tampa or Carolina (whoever does not win the division) is probably going to get in since they both have 9 wins. Tampa would have to lose their remaining games for us to overtake them and Carolina could win only one more (and since they play teams like Dallas and Atlanta, we would want them to win). That means us, Dallas, Atlanta, and Minnesota are in contention for the last spot. I do believe that if we win out we are in beacuse of our conference record.
Here are the other team's schedules: Atlanta: New Orleans, @Chicago, @Tampa, Carolina Dallas: @Washington, @Carolina, St. Louis Minnesota: Pittsburgh, @Baltimore, Chicago Really, its not out of the question that each of these teams even loses two games, let alone only one, but I think our biggest threat is Minnesota. Also, we can still look to win the division by winning out and hoping the Giants lose to either the Chiefs or Raiders. |

Re: final nfc contenders
Basically, for us, the playoffs have already started. Win and advance, lose and go home. Every week is a must-win. If we win out, we're in.

Re: final nfc contenders (merged)
The Skins have to win out and hope that dal, min, and atl lose 2 of their last 3 games, assuming that whoever doesn't win the south (carolina, t.b.) will be the first wild card. We really hurt ourselves by losing those close games against the afc west teams. The person earlier was right the other 3 contenders do play a tougher schedule than the redksins, so all we can do is hope the redskins win out, and the rest plays itself out to our advantage.

Re: final nfc contenders (merged)
Quote:
First, let's assume that the Skins must win out. We would win the division if the Giants lost a 2nd game in this stretch run (to either KC or Oakland) We would get a wildcard if TWO of the following happen: -Minnesota loses at least once -Atlanta loses at least once -Carolina loses at least twice -Chicago loses at least twice -Tampa loses all three (pretty unlikely) Minnesota still plays Pittsburgh and Chicago, while Atlanta still has tough matchups with Tampa, Carolina, and Chicago. It's reasonable to expect that both will lose at least once. So bottom line, if the Skins take care of business, their chances for making the postseason look pretty strong. |

Re: final nfc contenders
It really is that simple, but can get complicated when we start talking about wild cards. Biggest thing we win out. Second we need Giants to loose to KC or Oakland. It gets no simpler we are in as Division Champs if they choke or give up one of those and us.
