Wireless Help!

I setup a WPA-PSK (I think I got those right) AES and I can connect just fine with my desktop and my laptop. However, my friend can't connect. He uses a Belkin Wireless device that connects via his USB port. I've tried setting the Router to G only and B only (Found out his deice is G only) problem is the Belkin device finds the signal and connects just fine, however the windows side of the software likes to say that the signal is excellent yet it has limited or no activity. It seems to be some sort of problem with the IP address. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Wireless Help!

belkins are crap, the antenna probably sucks... try switching the broadcast channel (try 1, 6 and 11).. you might be getting interference, if all three of those channels don't work, i'd suggest having him buy a new 10$ wireless adapter. If you're using encryption, make sure that's set up (not having the key would cause similar conditions).

You could also get an extra antenna to connect to the router, but that's probably a waste.

also make sure he's on the access list on the router if its using one.

you should be able to go to 192.168.1.1 and login to the router (admin/password if you left the defaults) and go through the config if you need to.

Re: Wireless Help!

Right, you might have to manually go in and enter the ip address in the router.

Go to run, type cmd, and then ipconfig (on the computer that's working)

It will give you the information you need.
